Georgia Habitat Explorers

Introduction

Welcome, young explorers! Today, you are traveling scientists on an exciting journey across Georgia! Your mission is to explore the five major habitats in Georgia and discover what makes them special. You will research plants, animals, landforms, and climate to learn how living things survive in these different places. 

Your final mission? You will work in groups to create a travel guide that will teach others about your assigned habitat!

Task

Each group will be assigned on of Georgia's five major habitats: 

Mountains 

Piedmont 

Coastal Plain 

Atlantic Ocean 

Swamp & Marsh 

Your Group's Goals: 

1. Research: Learn about your habitat. What landforms are there? What animals and plants live there? 

2. Write & Draw: Create a travel guide with descriptions, fun facts and pictures. 

3. Present: Share your guide with the class to teach your classmates about your habitat. 

Process

Step 1: Research Your Habitat 

Your group will explore websites and videos to learn about: 

The landforms (mountains, rivers, flat lands, etc.) 

The weather and climate (hot, cold, rainy, dry, etc) 

The plants that grow there 

The animals that live there.

Step 2: Create Your Travel Guide 

Your travel guide should include: 

A Cover Page with fun title and a drawing of your habitat. 

A Description of your habitat (What does it look like? What kind of weather does it have?). 

A Map showing where your habitat is in Georgia. 

Fun Facts about animals and plants. 

Illustrations (draw or print pictures o your habitat, animals, and plants). 

A "Traveler's Advice" section (What should people bring if they visit?) 

 

Step 3: Present Your Travel Guide 

Your tram will share your travel guide with the class. Be ready to: 

Read your travel guide aloud 

Show your drawings or pictures. 

Answer any questions from your classmates.

Teamwork  Everyone worked together and participated. Some helped more than others. Only one person did most of the work. 
Research The guide has accurate and detailed facts, The guide has some facts, but a few are missing. The guide is missing many facts.
Creativity The guide is colorful, neat and fun! The guide is somewhat colorful but could be neater. The guide is messy or missing pictures.
Presentation The team spoke clearly and answered questions well. The team presented but needed more practice. The team had trouble expelling their guide.
