Learning Objectives:

Students will be able to understand what causes natural disasters like for Ex: earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and the science behind it.
Students will analyze how these natural disasters affect earths systems( geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere).
Student will apply what they have learned about natural disasters to come up with strategies for disaster preparedness and mitigation.
Students will collaborate to present what they found and propose the solutions for minimizing the effect of natural disasters.

For this presentation you will work in groups of 4 to investigate your assigned natural disaster and present what you found through a narrated PowerPoint presentation. Your PowerPoint should have the following:

1)Cover Page

This slide should contain the natural disaster you were given as the title, and the names of everyone in your group at the bottom right corner of the slide.

2) Introduction

For this slide introduce your natural disaster and the science behind it. Include what causes them to occur, and a past event caused by your natural disaster.

3)Impact on Earth's systems

Find out both long-term and short-term effects this natural disaster has on Earth's geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere.

4)Preparedness and Mitigation Strategies

What are some of the strategies we use to prepare for this natural disaster as well as how we mitigate the effects. explain the role of human activity in agitating or reducing the impact of your natural disaster.

5) Case Study

Find an example of a natural disaster that has occurred on earth and analyze how it impacted the local environment and human population.
