Create Your Own Civilization

Introduction

Welcome, young architects of history! The Interdimensional Council of Civilizations (ICC) has selected you for a crucial mission: to design and build a civilization from the ground up. You will have to make decisions about its location, culture, government, and economy, and face the challenges that arise along the way. Are you ready to create a civilization that endures through time?

Task

Students, working in teams, will have to design a complete civilization, including:

  • Geographical location (climate, natural resources).

  • Social and political structure (type of government, laws, social roles).

  • Culture (art, religion, traditions).

  • Economy (production system, trade).

  • Response plan to potential challenges (natural disasters, conflicts, resource scarcity).

The final result will be presented in a multimedia format (presentation, video, website) that describes the created civilization in detail.

Process

1. Research

Students will use the provided links to online resources (websites, articles, videos) to research different types of civilizations, political structures, economic systems, and cultures. They will be provided with templates and guides to organize the information gathered.

Resources:

2. Design and Build

  • Teams will use their research to outline their civilization’s main characteristics.

  • They will create a detailed plan using a template provided by the teacher.

  • Using Minecraft for Education, they will build their civilization, incorporating elements from their research.

3. Presentation

  • Teams will create a multimedia presentation (PowerPoint, video, website, or another format) showcasing their civilization and their Minecraft civilization

  • Each group will present their work to the class, explaining their decisions and how they addressed challenges.

Some team members participated, but effort was uneven.

Little to no teamwork was evident.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have built a civilization from scratch. Through this process, you’ve learned how civilizations develop, what challenges they face, and how they endure over time.

Take some time to reflect on your experience:

  • What were the most challenging decisions you had to make?

  • How did your civilization reflect real historical civilizations?

  • If you could improve your civilization, what changes would you make?

By understanding civilizations of the past, you have gained insight into how societies function and evolve. Who knows? Maybe one day, you will help shape the future of our own civilization!
