Plant and Animal Cell

Introduction

Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards:

-(MS-CCRS) Plant and Animal Cells L.7.1.3 & L.7.1.4

-Students will develop and use models to explain how specific cellular components (cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, chloroplast, vacuole, and mitochondria) function together to support the life of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms to include plants, animals, fungi, protists, and bacteria.

-Students will compare and contrast different cells in order to classify them as a protist, fungus, plant, or animal.

Objectives:

-The student will compare the plant cell and animal cell with a Venn diagram to find the similarities and differences between the two cells with no error. (Analysis-DOK-3)

-The student will construct an essay that shows a clear understanding of the similarities and differences between plant and animal cell. (Analysis-DOK-3)

In today's lesson you will learn about Plant and Animal cells. You will get together in groups of two to compare both animal and plant cell. One student in the group will have the animal cell and the other student will have plant cell. You will look at each cell to find both the similarities and differences and tell why you think there are differences amongst the two cells. Do you think the cells have different parts for a specific function? If so, explain why.

Task

This assignment will require you to watch videos and read two articles on plant and animal cells and functions. While watching the video play close attention to the specific cell functions and take notes on what you think will be useful for your short essay. Keep in mind that there are a few differences in plant and animal cells. Consider the shape and size of the cells. This assignment will also require you to read and understand Venn Diagrams. After completing the WebQuest, you should be able to identify the similarities and differences in the two cells and complete the Venn Diagram. You should also be able to explain the similarities and differences in a short essay.

Process

To begin this assignment you will watch two videos on plant and animal cells. (Take Notes)
