Creating a Digital Literary Piece on a Social Issue

Students will create a short modern literary work (e.g., digital poem, micro-fiction, spoken word poetry, or a short story) that reflects a contemporary social issue using modern storytelling techniques.

Step 1: Understanding 21st Century Literature

• Watch: Video lecture on “Traditional vs. Contemporary Literature” (10 mins)
• Read: Excerpt from a modern Philippine short story or spoken word poetry
• Discuss: In an online forum, answer: How is 21st-century literature different from classical literature?

Step 2: Analyzing Modern Literary Works

• Compare: Read two pieces—one classical and one contemporary—and identify themes, language, and style.
• Activity: Create a Venn Diagram comparing a Rizal novel (e.g., Noli Me Tangere) and a modern Filipino novel (e.g., Ilustrado by Miguel Syjuco).
• Self-Check: Quiz on key elements of modern literature.

Step 3: Exploring the Digital Impact on Literature

• Research: How social media, blogs, and digital poetry are shaping modern literature.
