Important Battles of the American Civil War

Introduction

The American Civil War was a significant event in American History and altered the United States as a nation. This WebQuest will guide you through the important battles of the American Civil War, analyze battle strategies, identify important historical figures, and map the locations. 

Task

You will work in groups to research different important battles during the American Civil War. Each group will be assigned an important battle to research, present their findings to the class, and place their battle location on a map displayed in the classroom. 

1. **Historian** - Research the major battle and the actions that took place during the historical event.

2. **Military Analyst** - Focus on the key military and battle strategies used during the important battle in the Civil War.

3. **Politician** - Research who won the important battle and what happened afterwards to the Union and Confederacy.

4. **Cartographer** - Focus on where the important battle took place and what geographical importance it was to the battle and the victor. 

 

Process

2. Scribe: Write down key information on the important battle your group chose. Identify the important figures and leadership during the battle in the American Civil War. Identify the battle strategies used and who the victor was of the important Civil War battle. Discuss the location of the battle and what geographical factors could have led to the victory and defeat of both parties. 

3. Presentation: You will as a group present the information you have gathered on the important American Civil War Battle. One student will explain what happened. One student will explain the important figures during the battle and their strategy. One student will present who won and what the aftermath of the battle was. One student will place a star on the map displayed in the classroom and explain the geographical significance of the battle.

Ability to answer questions about information gathered.
