classroom webquest the wonderful world of plants and animals!!

Introduction

Hello, Young Scientist! 🔬🌱🐶

Are you ready to explore the wonderful world of plants and animals? Today, you will become an Animal and Plant Investigator! You will observe different plants and animals, and compare how they look and how they behave. Some are tall, some are small, and some are fast—can you tell the differences?

Plants and animals have many things in common, but they also have some special features that make them unique. Let’s go on a discovery adventure to learn about these amazing living things!

Task

Your mission is to:

  1. Observe different plants and animals, and describe what they look like.
  2. Compare how plants and animals are alike and different in their appearances and behaviors.
  3. Create a "My Plants and Animals" chart where you will record your observations and share what you’ve learned.

By the end of your investigation, you’ll know how plants and animals are similar and how they are unique! 🧐🌼🐦

Process

Step 1: Meet the Plants and Animals!

First, let's watch a few fun videos to learn about different plants and animals. Pay attention to what they look like and how they behave.

What to Look For:

  • How does the plant look? (Is it big or small? Does it have leaves, flowers, or fruit?)
  • How does the animal look? (Does it have fur, feathers, or scales? Is it big or small?)
  • How do the plants and animals behave? (Do animals walk, fly, or swim? Do plants stand still, grow, or bloom?)

Step 2: Compare and Contrast Plants and Animals!

Now, let's make a comparison chart to record what we notice about plants and animals.

On your chart, you’ll write or draw what is alike and different between plants and animals.

Things to think about:

  • Appearance: How do they look? (Size, color, shape, texture)
  • Behavior: What do they do? (Do they move? Do they grow?)

Here’s an example of what you might write or draw:

Plants Animals
Have leaves and flowers Have fur, feathers, or scales
Grow in the ground Can move by walking, swimming, or flying
Stay in one place Can go from one place to another
Need sunlight and water to grow Eat food to survive

Step 3: Observe in Nature!

It's time to become a nature detective! Go outside (or use the images in the provided resources) to observe a plant and an animal.

  • Look closely at the plant: What does it look like? What shape are its leaves? Does it have flowers or fruits?
  • Look at the animal: What does it look like? Is it big or small? What color is it? How does it move? Does it fly, swim, or walk?

Optional: If you’re at home, you can look out the window or use pictures of animals and plants from a book or the internet.

Step 4: Create Your “My Plants and Animals” Chart

Now that you’ve made your observations, it’s time to create your chart.

  • Draw a picture of your plant and animal.
  • Write or describe at least one thing that is alike between them and one thing that is different.

For example:

  • Alike: Both need food to grow or survive.
  • Different: Plants don’t move, but animals can!

Here is a sample chart you can fill out:

Alike Different
Both need water to survive Animals can move, but plants can’t.
Both are living things! Plants grow in the ground, animals move around.

Step 5: Share Your Findings!

Now it’s time to share what you learned!

  • Show your chart to a family member or your class.
  • Tell them about the plant and animal you observed.
  • Explain how they are alike and how they are different!
Evaluation

You will be graded on:

  • Observation Details: Did you observe the plant and animal carefully and describe their appearances? 🌱🐦
  • Comparison Chart: Did you complete the "alike and different" chart with at least one similarity and one difference? 📝
  • Sharing: Did you explain your chart clearly to a family member or your classmates? 📢
Conclusion

Fantastic job, Investigator! 🏅🎉

You’ve learned a lot about the plants and animals around you. You know how to observe and compare them to find similarities and differences. Keep looking for more plants and animals in your world, and use your new detective skills to learn even more!

Remember, plants and animals may be very different, but they’re both important parts of our planet!
