Climate change and its impact/ By Nayfa Azkoul/ grades (8-9)

Introduction

Welcome Future Environmental Guardians !

Imagine waking up one day to find that the summer heat is unbearable, sea levels have swallowed coastal cities, and wildlife is struggling

to survive. This is not just a scene from a movie; its a possible future if we don't take action against the climate change!

Climate change is one of the most important problems that our world is facing today. Understanding its causes, effects, and potential

solutions is crucial for future generations.

impacts our planet and our lives and brainstorm innovative solutions to help protect our world.

Get ready to become advocates for change, using you research skills and creativity to inspire others! Together we can make a difference!

Task

In this webquest, you and will explore climate change and create a presentation to share what you learn.

Here’s what you’ll do:

To do list complete notes writing task checkmark done clipboard pencil 3d icon animation

1) Research the Causes: Find out what causes climate change, ex: pollution and deforestation.

2) Explore the Effects: Look into how climate change affects the planet, such as:

  • Rising sea levels
  • Extreme weather (like hurricanes and droughts)
  • Impact on animals and plants

3) Propose Solutions: Think of ways we can help fight climate change. (Consider actions individuals can take, like recycling, as well as

larger solutions like using renewable energy.)

Process

1)Form Groups: Organize into teams of 3-4 students.  Assign roles within the group, such as researcher, writer, designer, and presenter

 to ensure everyone contributes.

2) Conduct Research: Use the provided resources to gather information on the causes, effects, and solutions related to climate change.

Focus on the three key areas:

  • Causes: Investigate what causes climate change, such as greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and industrial activities.

  • Effects: Explore how climate change impacts the environment, society, and wildlife. Look for real-life examples and statistics to support your findings.

  • Solutions: Research both individual actions (like reducing waste) and larger-scale solutions (like renewable energy initiatives and government policies).

3) Create Your Presentation: Use tools like PowerPoint or Google Slides. Include:

  • Images and charts
  • Key facts
  • Short videos, if possible

4) Prepare for Presentation: Practice presenting your findings to the class, and be ready to answer questions.

By the end, you'll understand climate change better and be able to share your knowledge with others!

Evaluation

Your presentation will be graded on four main areas:

  1. Content Accuracy (30 points):

    • Clear understanding of climate change causes, effects, and solutions.
    • Uses reliable information.
  2. Depth of Research (30 points):

    • Covers all parts of the topic thoroughly.
    • Shows good insights and ideas.
  3. Creativity and Design (20 points):

    • Looks visually appealing and organized.
    • Uses pictures, charts, and videos effectively.
  4. Presentation Skills (20 points):

    • Speaks clearly and confidently.
    • Engages with the audience and answers questions well.

Total: 100 points

Grading Scale:

  • 90-100 points: Excellent work; well-researched and engaging.
  • 70-89 points: Good job; mostly clear but needs some improvement.
  • 50-69 points: Basic understanding; missing some details.
  • Below 50 points: Needs significant improvement.
Conclusion

Here are some key points to think about:

  1. What You Learned: What new facts surprised you? How has your understanding of climate change changed.

  2. Personal Impact: Consider how climate change affects your community. Are there local issues, like flooding or extreme weather, that you noticed?

  3. Taking Action: What steps can you take in your daily life to help? Small actions, like recycling or saving energy, can make a big difference.

  4. Sharing Knowledge: You have the power to share what you’ve learned. Think about how you can talk to your friends and family about climate change or get involved in community projects.

  5. Empowering Others: Remember, your voice matters. Encourage others to join in the fight against climate change. Together, you can make a positive impact!

Thank you for your hard work. Keep thinking about how you can help protect our planet!
