World Water Day

Introduction

Welcome to the “World Water Day” WebQuest!

World Water Day is a global event that focuses on the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of water resources. Water is essential to life, yet billions of people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water. The Annual Theme of World Water Day 2025 is “Glacier Preservation” aiming to highlightthe vital role glaciers play in sustaining life on Earth: serving as natural freshwater reservoirs and providing essential meltwater for drinking, agriculture, industry, clean energy and ecosystems.

Task

By completing this WebQuest, students will:

  • Investigate the importance of freshwater and global water scarcity using reliable scientific sources.

  • Create cengaging digital products to communicate water conservation messages effectively.

  • Analyze survey data and present findings to deepen understanding of water habits and promote responsible water use within the community.

Process

Step 1: Water Conservation

Research on why freshwater is essential and explore the global challenges related to water scarcity and safe drinking water. Make sure you use reliable sources to gather information about water usage, waste, and conservation strategies.

Step 2: Create an Infographic

Select the most important facts about water conservation and create an engaging infographic, using the Web2.0 tool of your choice.

Step 3: Develop a Water Awareness Survey

Create an online survey using tools like Google Forms. Include questions about water habits, awareness and possible solutions to reduce water waste. Share the survey with friends, or family members to collect responses.

Step 4: Analyze & Share Your Findings

Review the survey results and identify the most common ideas, habits or concerns. Prepare a short summary or visual presentation of what you learned.

Step 5: Present your Work

Post your infographic, survey summary or reflections on the Padlet: https://padlet.com/meddiet4health/world-water-day-22-march-ore5746jafzymmha

View your classmates’ contributions and leave comments.

Evaluation

Your work will be evaluated with the use of this rubric:

Criteria 5 - Excellent 4 - Good 3 - Satisfactory 2 - Needs Improvement 1 - Poor
Research Quality Thorough research using multiple reliable sources; clearly explains why freshwater is essential and global water challenges. Good research with mostly reliable sources; explains freshwater importance and challenges with minor gaps. Adequate research with some reliable sources; basic explanation of freshwater and water issues. Limited research with few reliable sources; unclear or incomplete explanation of topic. Minimal or no research; lacks understanding of freshwater importance and global challenges.
Infographic Content & Design Infographic is highly engaging, visually appealing, and accurately presents key water conservation facts. Infographic is clear and attractive, presenting most important facts well. Infographic is somewhat clear but may lack visual appeal or miss some important facts. Infographic is poorly organized or visually unappealing; many important facts missing. Infographic is confusing, incomplete, or missing major facts about water conservation.
Survey Development Survey includes well-crafted questions on water habits, awareness, and solutions; easy to understand and complete. Survey has good questions covering most key areas; mostly clear and understandable. Survey questions cover basic water topics but lack depth or clarity in some areas. Survey questions are unclear, limited in scope, or do not fully address water habits and solutions. Survey is incomplete, confusing, or missing key questions about water conservation awareness.
Analysis & Presentation Insightful analysis identifying clear patterns; summary or visual presentation is well-organized and informative. Good analysis with identification of common ideas; summary or presentation conveys learning clearly. Basic analysis with some identification of ideas; summary or presentation is somewhat clear. Limited analysis; summary or presentation lacks clarity or organization. No meaningful analysis; summary or presentation is missing or very unclear.
Presentation & Engagement Work is posted on Padlet with thoughtful reflections; actively comments on peers’ contributions demonstrating engagement. Work is posted with reflections; comments on some classmates’ posts showing engagement. Work is posted with minimal reflections; few or no comments on peers’ contributions. Work posted with little to no reflection; no interaction with classmates’ posts. Work not posted; no reflections or peer interactions present.
Conclusion

Through this WebQuest, you explored why water conservation is essential and how global and local habits shape our use of freshwater. By creating infographics, designing surveys and sharing your findings, you transformed research into meaningful awareness-raising tools. Your participation helps inspire your community to make more sustainable choices for the future.

This WebQuest was edited by two members of USGGED,Türkiye as part of the activities of the "Mediterranean Diet for Overall Health" (MedDiet4Health) Erasmus+ project (Project number: 2023-2-EL01-KA210-VET-000183592).

Through this WebQuest, students gained a deeper awareness of real-world water challenges and learned how to turn information into clear, practical messages for others. They built data-gathering and decision-making skills by creating and distributing a survey, and they strengthened their visual communication abilities through infographic design. They also practiced digital citizenship and constructive feedback, all while developing a stronger sense of responsibility toward sustainable water use.
