Introduction
Captain Carbon : Save the Future!
The Earth is getting warmer and warmer. We are in a kind of 'Tetris Game'
As you saw in the video, we would be stuck in a game of global warming. Furthermore, we won't get another chance to start over!
How the Earth would be in the future? What is the effects of global warming?
From now on, you are an Earth Protector!
We are going to grasp the severity of the global warming. Then, think about some solutions for our planet and carry out your own solutions!
The overall objectives and tasks in this week are as follows.
Learning Objectives
1. Grasp the severity of the global warming
2. Think and carry out specific tasks you can do to protect our planet.
Task
From now on, you are an Earth Protector. Follow the step below through this weekend.
On DAY 1~4, we are going to understand what global warming is; the effects, severity, and so on.
Our ULTIMATE GOAL is to think about some solutions for the Earth. Thus, on the last day, you have to consider some ways that are achievable, as a student.
| Monday | What is global warming? |
| Tuesday | How global warming affects to people? |
| Wednesday | The effects of global warming to plants and animals. |
| Thursday | How the Earth would be change in the future because of the climate? |
| Friday |
Look through some great examples to protect the Earth. Think about solution as an Earth Protector. |

What is global warming?
Pop Quiz!
The Earth is suffering because of Freon gas, spray use, fumes, etc. That's why it heats up. This is called 'global warming'.
What does it mean? Click the link and think about the answer!
Do you know the answer? The answer is.... → → → → → → → → → → → ②
The global warming means that the Earth's temperature goes up year by year. As the earth heats up, there are many natural disasters.
Here is simple cartoon regarding global warming. Click the link!
The Earth is getting warmer. As greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide rise into the sky and surround the Earth, heat from the atmosphere cannot escape into outer space, causing the average temperature of the Earth to rise. This is called 'global warming'. To prevent global warming, what should we do?
[Tuesday]
How global warming affects to people?
◎ The global warming brings about climate change.
How 'Climate change' really work? Watch the video and answer the questions.
Q1: What is 'Greenhouse Gases'?
Q2" How fast is climate change?
◎ Guess what Earth in 2050 could look like.
Here are the keywords to think about the topic.
|
"summer" "droughts" "heavy rainfall" " erratic weather" "disease" "melting glaciers" "expensive grocery" |
Q1: If global warming continues, how will the temperature in summer change?
A :
Q2: If global warming continues, what natural disasters will people experience?
A :
Q3: If global warming continues, how will glaciers change and how will this affect people?
A:
Q4: If global warming continues, why does grocery become expensive?

[Wednesday]
The effects of global warming to plants and animals
◎ Climate change is the biggest rock you've ever seen.
Watch the video and find out the reason.
Q1: What were some examples of one species change affecting another?
A:
Q2: How does the plant's leaves change when atmospheric carbon dioxide increases? Does this make plants absorb more carbon dioxide?
A:
Q3: What are the problems with crops with a lot of carbon dioxide?
A:
Q4: Damage of the climate crisis affects all over the world. Is it fair?
A:
◎ In this video, we call climate change a 'biggest rock'. Do you think climate change is the biggest rock? Why?
◎ Think about what changes are going to happen to you because of climate change.
[Thursday]
How the Earth would be change in the future because of the climate?
◎ Watch the video and fill in the blanks

If you were a person living in the future, how has your daily life changed?
What message would you like to send us?
[Friday]
In this week, you've studied what Global Warming is.
Firstly, define global warming in your own word.
" "
Even though it might be considered somewhat severe, your small effort can change the world!
Here's some great way to HEAL the Earth!
Next, we are going to work for our ultimate goal in this week.
Let's pretend you are an Earth Protector, and think about the solutions YOU CAN DO to protect our planet. Then, try to carry out them in the next week. Write down in the padlet link below.
You can check some examples below.
| My solution for the Earth | Pick up trashes |
| How can I achieve it(specific plan) | I will pick up trashes around my school. |
| What can be expected through my effort? | If other students see me pick up the trashes, they would pick them up too, and our school and village would be much cleaner! |

Evaluation
You can confirm the criteria for the evaluation.
| Criteria | Beginning | Developing | Accomplished | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Components |
0 Point |
3 Point | 5 Point | |
| Participation | need more efforts to catch up everyday assignments | Participate everyday assignments with some interest | Participate everyday assignments diligently | |
| Flow | Not enough understand of the context |
Can understand the context to a degree |
Continual and understandable context | |
| Tasks | Try to understand given tasks, but need to study more |
Try to understand given tasks, make sense of them |
Understand given tasks, can explain to other students | |
| Output | Can draw some solution but need to be improved | Can draw an understandable on one's own |
Can draw an achievable, creative solution on one's own |
|
| Implementation | Can carry out solution, being helped by someone else. | Carry out your own solution for the Earth on some days |
Carry out your own solution through next week and give sustainable concerns to the Earth |
Conclusion
Please answer the questions below, looking back this week.
1. Could you understand what global warming is?
2. How global warming affects to people/plants/animals?
3. How the Earth would be if this phenomenon lasts?
4. Is it hard or easy to come up with some ideas for the Earth? Can individual contribute to ease the global warming?
If you answer these question, I assume you could understand about global warming.
If your small efforts gain, the world can be changed. Here is a guide for this weekend. Write down your everyday efforts for the Earth.
It doesn't have to be enormous. Just show to the Earth that you are care about it.

Closing Remark
We target sixth-grade students to explain the severity of global warming and environmental issues. At this age, students are curious and sensitive to environmental matters, so we assume that we can effectively educate them with this approach. The greatest advantage of using WebQuest is the vast amount of information available on the internet. Since global warming is a widespread phenomenon around the world, learning solely from textbooks has its limitations. Therefore, online resources are suitable for understanding climate changes occurring in various parts of the world. Thus, we have included a guide to help us learn about the future effects of global warming on plants and animals.
The future of global warming, as presented through photos, articles, and videos, can evoke fear. This WebQuest holds significant meaning as it helps students develop awareness about the importance of environmental protection. Therefore, students who recognize the seriousness of the issue will be able to seek ways to mitigate global warming on their own. If they think of feasible solutions as students and are motivated to implement them, they will achieve the learning objectives.
