Mission i'mpossible: Explore landmarks in Korea!

Introduction

Welcome alien explorers! Today, you're going to go on an exciting mission to learn awesome facts about landmarks in Korea! When you get back to your planet, you're going to make a travel brochure to tell your alien friend how wonderful Korea is and why we should visit Korea, on Earth !

Task

Your task is to go through these resources and take notes on everything you learn about landmarks. Then, you're going to get in your assigned groups and make a travel pamphlet to show the rest of the class why we should all visit your group's site!

Process

Step 1 - Feel the rhythm of Korea

Watch this video that can help you feel the rhythm of Korea with famous musicians! :) (I'm sure that you really like the contents of this video!)

Step 2 - Exploration

Explore cities below by reading the facts about each city.

1) Seoul : https://english.visitseoul.net/attractions

2) Busan : https://www.visitbusan.net/en/index.do

3) Jeonju : https://tour.jeonju.go.kr/eng/index.jeonju

4) Jeju : https://www.visitjeju.net/en

And then, fill out this table.

Things to search
  Seoul Busan Jeonju Jeju
Population 9,355,801 3,275,593 638,475 671,540

Attractions

(Nature, history,

culture, museum, etc)

Festivals
Food or shopping

Make sure to take good notes on your city table. Think about where is the best place to recommend to Ms. Judy. (She lives on the space station. And you should induce her to come to Korea. It's only when Ms. Judy come to Korea by her UFO that you can go your home by her UFO!)

Step 3 - Planning your itinerary

Read Ms.Judy’s letter and recommend a good travel course suitable for her. The letter contains information about Ms.Judy’s preference and personalities, such as her hobbies and taste in food.

Refer to the information in the letter and persuade her by creating a detailed itinerary of the day she will spend, which include activities like sightseeing, trying local food, or going on adventures. (The letter would include: She like a history trip, she has a dynamic personality, she likes spicy food a lot, and so on.)

Step 4 - City Matching Game

Good job everyone!

Now if you want to go back to your planet, there is a task. It`s a game called matching game. There are pictures of 8 different places in Korea. And you have to match where you can find them. If you fail, you can`t go back to your home. So please focus on it! :)

Step 5 - Welcome back!

You're back in your hometown.

Now that you know everything about the trip in Korea, form a group and share the facts about your trip to Korea! (We will provide each group with an empty brochure that does not contain any content. )

Write down what you learned about your trip to Korea in a brochure with your group and present it in class! Let's include tourist attractions and food in various regions of Korea in the brochure! Decorate the brochure with various colors representing Korea so that the whole class can see your story!

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated on:

Completion of table that was given to them. (20 pts.)

Completion of Matching game (20 pts.)

Completion of their travel brochure (40 pts.)

Group presentation and enthusiasm when presenting (20 pts.)

Conclusion

Congratulations on finishing your mission!

You have now learned all about landmarks in Korea and convinced the rest of the class that we should visit a city you picked! Now that you're back, which city was your favorite to visit?
