DISCUSSION
The emergence of ICT is one of the remarkable gifts of modern science and technology, bringing significant transformations to library and information science.
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) plays a great help in improving and modernization of every library specially in gathering information and in making the work of every employee easier.
From traditional and storehouse of books, libraries became intellectual information center. Which leads every library to transform into an electronic library based.
An example to this is
Easy access to information.
Technologies are being used instead of books.
ICT helped a lot, especially in the following:
Acquiring Information
Processing Information
Dissemination of Information
Effects of using computers in the library:
1. Avoid multiple jobs
2. Saves considerable amount of time
3. Saves resources
4. Save Labor
5. Speeds up technical processing and information services.
Technology is essentially the application of scientific knowledge to solve real-world problems and improve our daily lives.
ICT Literacy is knowing how to use computers and the internet to find, use, and share information.
Educational technology is the use of both physical hardware, software, and educational theoretic to facilitate learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.
Digital Technology enables immense amounts of information to be compressed on a small storage device that can be easily preserved and transported.
Digital Tools are programs, websites or online resources that can make tasks easier to complete.
Online Digital Tools and apps use in internet connection to access the information needed. It is a telecommunication application software product that specializes in providing video chat and voice calls between computers, tablets, mobile devices via internet and to regular telephones (Synchronous learning).
Off-line Digital Tools and apps can still be access even if there is no internet connection. (Asynchronous Learning)
Software, in its most general sense, is a set of instructions or programs instructing a computer to do specific tasks. Software is a generic term used to describe computer programs.
Multimedia content that uses a combination of different content forms such as text, audio, images, animations, video and interactive content. Examples: Educational Videos, Story Books, PowerPoint Presentations for Education ICT Infrastructure
Internet is the computer network which allows computer users to connect with computers over the world, and which carries email.
World Wide Web is an interconnected library that you can access from your computer or smart phone to find and share information easily. Example Websites: Wikipedia & Amazon Example Web Applications: Google Docs, G Mail and Facebook
WebAccess is the ability of the learner to access the internet at any point during the lesson to take advantage of the array of available education resources.
WebQuest is a type of lesson where students gather most of their information from the internet. These lessons can be designed using various tools, including basic word processing documents with links to websites.
Productivity Tools are software applications designed to enhance efficiency in personal, professional, or educational settings. These tools help users perform various tasks such as word processing, managing grades and records, creating web pages, and making presentations.
Examples: Microsoft Office, To do List Application and Apple Works
Technology tools is an instrument used for doing work. It can be anything that help you accomplish your goal with the use of technology. These tools can be classified as:
a) Data Calculation Tools - these tools help with numbers and calculations.
Examples:
▪ Spreadsheets like Excel organize data in rows and columns.
▪ Sketchpads allow to draw electrical, mechanical, scientific, mathematical and animated drawings.
b) Design Tools - are used for creating visuals and plans.
Examples:
▪ Family Tree Maker helps map out family histories.
▪ Golly Gee aids in creating animations.
▪ Canva helps is an all-around solution for creating various projects.
