In this webquest you are going to produce a poster that recalls some important news events related to environmental issues and create an event to bring awareness to this issue.
Task
| You are a group of volunteers who need to create a poster and an event to bring awareness on environmental issues. To produce the poster, you will work in groups of 4 and do the following: -From the BBC News website, choose three important news from 2024 about environmental issues. -Write a short summary for each of the news. -Make a brainstorm of ideas for the event. -Create a checklist of the activities for the event. -Edit and create the poster, including the news and the details for the event. |
Process
Think about current environmental issues. What are the biggest issues?
-
Work in groups of 4. Look at the BBC news website (https://www.bbc.com/future-planet )You will see that the web is divided in categories (Home, News, Sport, Business, Innovation, Culture, Travel, Earth, Video, Live). Go to the earth section and choose three relevant news from this year.
-
Write a short summary for each of the news.
Tips for your summary:
• Your summary should be short – between 100 and 120 words.
• You may use graphics from the Internet to illustrate your summary.
• Include the date on which your news story was published.
-
Make a brainstorm of ideas for the event.
Tips for creating the event:
What age is your audience?
What activities would encourage them to come to the event?
How can you call the attention of the audience?
What materials are you going to use for the poster?
-
Create a checklist of the activities for the event.
-
Edit and create the poster, including the news and the details for the event.
What photos/illustrations will you use?
What order will you put the news in?
What ‘look’ will the poster have? Will each news have the same headline
font and style, the same layout, the same number of photos, or will each news style be different? What size paper will you use?
Once you have decided on this, you need to work together to produce the poster.
-
Present your posters to the class. Walk around the classroom and look at the other groups´posters.
Evaluation
-Present your posters to the class and explain why you choose each news, the objective of your event and the details.
