Process
Step 1: In groups of 3 - 4 choose an aspect of Jamaican culture. Talk about what you know about it.
Step 2: Each group will research their aspect of Jamaican culture. Such as
- Music: Reggae, dancehall, traditional folk music.
- Food: Jerk chicken, jerk pork, ackee and saltfish, patties, baked products example ( dukunu, gizzada, potato pudding).
- Festivals: Reggae Sumfest, Independence Day celebrations.
- Dance: traditional dances like Jonkunu, Dinki Mini, Maypole, Brukins
- Language: Jamaican Creole/patois, Standard Jamaica English
- Dressing: National costume (Bandana), Jamaican colours
Will be provided with resources like books, websites, videos, and articles to help gather information.
Step 3: Each group will search for images that represent their assigned aspect of Jamaican culture. Select pictures that clearly depict what has been researched.
Step 4: Each group will design a layout for their display. Decide how to arrange the pictures and what information will accompany each image. Use colors, patterns, and symbols that represents Jamaica. Write brief captions or descriptions for each picture, explaining its significance and connection to Jamaican culture.
Step 5: Be provided with materials such as display boards, markers, glue, mounting tape, cartridge paper, and decorative items to create their displays.
Step 6: Each group will set up and present their display to the school community. Engage with the audience, sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for Jamaican culture.
