Introduction
Ask yourself, do you enjoy mysteries. The story unfolds as a mystery, narrated through entries from a captain's journal.
Task
It is important to pay close attention to the characters in the story, as you will be asked to explain their feelings and motivations later on.
Process
When you pay close attention to the characters, they'll be able to notice character traits, or words that describe how characters act. Some examples that you could give are calm, sneaky, and enthusiastic.
ELA.1. C.1.2
Write narratives that retell two or more appropriately sequenced events, including relevant details and a sense of closure.
Evaluation
The plot is the story of a book. It often has a predictable “path” that it follows: the beginning, the middle, and the end. At the beginning of the book, the author will introduce the characters and the setting. In the middle, a conflict, or change, will start to happen. By the end of the book, the resolution will have solved the conflict. Write a sentence about each part of your book’s plot along the path.
Conclusion
Students will have the ability to discern the moral of a straightforward story and recognize various characteristics of the characters involved.

This WebQuest will be used to allow the students to use their imaginations and try to write their own stories in their journals. This book will help them imagine what the captain was thinking when he wrote in his own journal and also help them with the comprehension skills.
