Celebrated on February 4th each year, World Cancer Day is an international day aimed at raising awareness about cancer and encouraging its prevention, detection, and treatment. Cancer affects millions of people worldwide and understanding it can empower us to take action. After you visit page Preventing Chronic Diseases: Mediterranean Diet and Cancer Prevention, in this WebQuest you will learn about different types of cancer, their risk factors, and how to support those affected by cancer.

Process
Step 1: Research & Create a Cancer Awareness Infographic
- Select a specific type of cancer you want to research, such as breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer or colon cancer. Think about why you chose this type of cancer and what interests you about it.
- Use reputable resources to grather information about your chosen cancer:
- Definition: What is this type of cancer?
- Symptoms: Common signs to look out for.
- Risk Factors: What increases the likelihood of developing this cancer? (e.g., lifestyle choices, genetics)
- Preventive Measures: How can people reduce their risk? (e.g., diet, exercise, regular screenings)
- Statistics: Include relevant statistics, such as incidence rates or survival rates.

Step 2: Create an Informative Infographic
Use a Web 2.0 tool of your choice to design your infographic. Follow these steps:
- Set Up Your Infographic: Choose a template that fits your content.
- Add a Title: Clearly label your infographic with the name of the cancer type.
- Include Key Sections:
- What is it?: A brief description.
- Symptoms: Use bullet points or icons to list symptoms.
- Risk Factors: Visual representations (like charts or icons).
- Prevention: Tips that are easy to read.
- Statistics: Graphs or pie charts to visualize data.
- Visual Appeal: Incorporate colors, images, and icons to make your infographic engaging.
- Cite Your Sources: At the bottom, include references for the information and images you used.
Step 3: Share your work

Step 4: Develop a Supportive Message
Think of someone affected by cancer. This could be a friend, family member or even a public figure you admire. Your message should aim to provide encouragement and comfort. Include the following elements:
- Greeting: Start with a warm greeting.
- Acknowledgment: Recognize their feelings and struggles, showing empathy.
- Encouragement: Share uplifting thoughts or personal anecdotes that can motivate them.
- Support Offer: Mention that you are there for them, whether for a conversation or practical help.
