Introduction
Welcome, 3rd graders! We live in a wonderful community with so many exciting places and people who contribute to its vibrancy. You are going to become community explorers! Through this WebQuest, you will investigate different aspects of our community, learn about its history, geography, and the people who live and work here. You will create a presentation to share your findings with your classmates and celebrate our community together!
Task
Your job is to research an important place or person in our community. You will use the information you gather to create a community presentation. You can choose to make a poster, a digital presentation, or even a short video. At the end, you will share your presentation with the class.
Process
-
Choose Your Topic: Select one of the following to research:
- A local historical site
- A community leader or influential person
- A local business or organization that helps the community
- A landmark or natural feature (like a park or river)
-
Research: Use the resources provided to find information. You can also ask family members or neighbors for stories or details.
-
Create Your Presentation: Decide how you will present your findings (poster, digital presentation, or video). Be sure to include:
- What your place or person does for our community
- Interesting facts
- Photos or drawings
-
Collaborate: Work with a partner or in small groups (if you choose). Share what you find and help each other with ideas and creativity.
-
Presentation Day: Prepare to present your findings to the class. Remember to speak clearly and answer questions from your classmates!
Evaluation
Your presentation will be evaluated based on:
- Research (Did you include interesting and accurate information?)
- Creativity (Is your presentation engaging and visually appealing?)
- Clarity (Did you communicate your ideas clearly during your presentation?)
- Teamwork (Did you work well with your partner/group?)
Conclusion
With your research and creativity, you have explored what makes our community special! Not only have you learned about important places and people, but you have also practiced teamwork and communication skills. Your presentations will help us all appreciate our community even more!
Student Reflection
After your presentation, take a moment to think about:
- What did you learn about your topic?
- How did it feel to present to the class?
- What did you enjoy most about working with your partner/group?
Public Presentation
Each group will present their project to the class. Make sure to prepare and practice!
