Good day everyone , today we will be exploring the national symbols of Jamaica. The island of Jamaica is undoubtedly the most
popular Caribbean island in the world. There are six national symbols associated with the island; they are the : national flag, the Coat of
Arms, the national tree, the national flower, the national bird and the national fruit.
Task

The children will be able to name the national symbols
The children will be able to tell how many national symbols Jamaica has.
The children will be able to give a brief description of each national symbol
The children will be able to identify the national symbols of Jamaica from among other countries national symbol
Process

Activity title: The National Symbols of Jamaica
The teacher will display a picture collage of the national symbols of Jamaica for the children to view. They will be engaged in a
group discussion about the national symbols. During the discussion they will listen and answer questions about the national symbols and
also count the number of national symbols on display . The children are expected to say the correct name for each symbol identified in
the discussion, example.: "The swallow tail humming bird is a very small humming bird." They will also be actively be engaged in creative
activity where they will colour pictures of national symbols and create mosaic art work of his or her favourite national symbol.
Evaluation
After the group activity and independent activities the children will be able to:
- Answer questions related to the national symbols of Jamaica
- Give a description of the national symbols of Jamaica
- Develop a general knowledge about the national symbols of Jamaica
- Enjoy collaborating with others
- Develop confidence being creative

From the engaging activities the children will garner relevant information about the national symbols of Jamaica making them
culturally aware of the important facts about the island. The children's vocabulary and language skills will be increased also their creative
skills are being explored. They are learning to be resilient in completing assigned tasks as they work independently and also learning to
socialize while collaborating with their peers in completing assignments.
