Your mission is to investigate the key components that contribute to a school's success. Through a series of activities, you'll define school effectiveness, explore its differences from school improvement, explore  theories explaining effectiveness, and discover practical strategies to enhance it.

Process:

Activity 1: What Makes a School Effective? Resource: Watch "The Elements of a High-Performing School" video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2DLG9c2hVc)   and note down key characteristics contributing to school effectiveness. Then, participate in a discussion  to compare observations with other teachers.

Activity 2: School Effectiveness vs. School Improvement Challenge:

Scenario 1: A school implements a new after-school program that leads to a rise in standardized test scores.

Scenario 2: A school fosters a strong sense of community, leading to increased student engagement and improved graduation rates.

Question:  Which scenario exemplifies school effectiveness and why?

Differentiate between school effectiveness and school improvement by analyzing these two scenarios.   

Activity 3: Theories behind School Effectiveness Explore key theories through an interactive map and two resources: Purkey & Smith (1983) and Southworth (2002). Utilize Google Scholar to explore into each theory's core principles and create a brief infographic highlighting main ideas.

Activity 4: Putting Theory into Practice Access a toolkit comprising practical resources. Choose one and demonstrate how you can integrate its strategies into your classroom to promote school effectiveness.

Your progress will be evaluated based on active participation in discussion , thorough analysis of scenarios, depth of understanding and creativity in creating the infographic, and practical demonstration of integrating strategies from the toolkit into your classroom.
