Introduction
Hello students. As we conclude this lesson, we will now focus on the regional effects of the New Deal policies. For this example, we will look at the policy impacts in New York.
Task
Your objective in this lesson is to:
- Research the effects of the New Deal from a regional perspective.
- Investigate how New York was influential on the New Deal.
Process
Using your headphones, watch the following video and answer the following discussion questions on your sheet of paper.
- During the New Deal federal resources were used to implement New York’s policies “on a colossal scale.” In fact, many New Deal programs were the product of new thoughts and ideas about what the federal government could do for the people. Evaluate the extent to which the New Deal represented the federal government learning from state-level successes. To what extent did evolving ideas about federal programs rescue the United States from the Great Depression?
- Evaluate the ways in which FDR and his New York ideas and advisors had a lasting impact on the United States. How did FDR and his “Brain Trust” reform the nation beyond alleviating people’s struggles in the Great Depression?
- Analyze the extent to which we can trace shifting power dynamics in the United States back to the New Deal. To what extent were/are New York-generated ideas and resources responsible for those shifts?
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on the accuracy and completion of discussion questions.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Great Depression caused a great amount of uncertainty in the United States. The causes of this stem from a mixture of poor economic practices, lack of political legislation, and environmental conditions. President Roosevelt introduced legislation known as the New Deal to help bring incentives to the American people and prevent any future depressions from occurring.
