Introduction

The Facts on Restoring the Louisiana Coast

Hello scientist,

My name is Marvin McMoodle. I am writing to you from New Orleans, Louisiana. Louisiana coastlines are being destroyed, and we need your help to save the coast and New Orleans. Your job is to find out what causes erosion. You will fill out the graphic organizer with your discoveries of what causes erosion. Once you have completed your investigation write back to me on what causes erosion so we can save the coastline and all the animals and people that live here. Good luck brave scientist!

-Sincerely Marvin McMoodle

4-ESS2-1 P Plan and conduct investigations on the effects of water,

ice, wind, and vegetation on the relative rate of weathering and

erosion.

In this quest, students learn about what coastal erosion is. Students receive letters from Marvin McMoodle, who is a resident of New Orleans. He is very concerned about what coastal erosion is and has reached out to you, the scientist, to explain what coastal erosion is and what can be done. Students watch a YouTube video and explore National Geographic websites to learn about how water erodes the shoreline. Students then write back to Marvin McMoodle and tell him what coastal erosion is and how he can help in the fight against Louisiana's disappearing coast lines.
