Standard 3.M.3- Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes.

Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes.

In this webquest students will learn how to tell time on a clock, and be able to show time on a timeline. The goal is for all students to make it through the webquest and be able to tell correct time confidently. Ths webquest will give examples of clocks and it is the students job to pick out the matching time shown on the clock. The student will also match a time shown with a time of the day (breakfast, lunch, etc).

Task

Today we will be learning to tell time using an anolog clock. First the students will watch a video on telling time as well as when it is AM and PM. After watching the video they will go to ABCYA.com to play a clock game, after they complete that they will do a worksheet on telling time.

After they have completed everything under the process tab they can move onto the evaluation tab. There they will complete the worksheet, which will be graded.

Process

Today, I will be giving a lesson on telling time on an analog clock. We will take 10 minutes to practice telling time as I associate the time of day with a task you would do.  you will individually get on the game I have assigned and work on telling time and whether it is AM or PM determined by the hints the game shows. I will be walking around checking on your progress, and for you to ask any questions you may have.

After practicing you will individually get on the game I have assigned and work on telling time and whether it is AM or PM determined by the hints the game shows. (https://www.abcya.com/games/telling_time ) I will be walking around checking on your progress, and for you to ask any questions you may have. While you are telling time be sure to note the setting for the time of day to determine if the time you are picking is in the AM or PM.

You will have what is left of today's class to practice telling time by using the game. 5 minutes before class ends I will give out a worksheet with analog clocks on it for you to do numbers 1-5 for tonight's homework. This worksheet will be due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

If you have any questions please ask!

Each problem on the worksheet will be evaluated using the following rubric:

Conclusion

After completing all parts of the evaluation, each student will individually participate in creating a project which shows their understanding of the concept and ability to use the skill practically. Students will do the following:

1. Write down the schedule they typically follow on a weekend. This can be Saturday or Sunday, or the schedule can be made up if you do not have a stable weekend schedule.

2. Once you have established a written version of your schedule, it must be shown to me and approved before you can proceed to creating your project.

3. After your schedule has been approved, each student will be given a posterboard.

4. On your posterboard, you will create a visual timeline of your schedule. If you are struggling to draw a clock by hand, please see the teacher for blank clocks to be printed off.

5. Once our projects are all complete, we will present our timelines to one another in small groups.
