Energy transfer

Introduction

In this Webquest you will learn about the 3 Energy transfer ways Conduction, Convection, and Radiation. Let's Get started. Energy transfer is the process by which energy is relocated from one system to another, for example, through the transfer of heat, work or mass transfer. 1. Mass energy transfer/ Convection. Convection is the movement of heat by a fluid such as water or air. The fluid (liquid or gas) moves from one location to another, transferring heat along with it. This movement of a mass of heated water or air is called a current. 2. Heat energy transfer/ Conduction. Conduction is the transfer of heat energy from one substance to another or within a substance. 3 Radiation energy transfer. Radiation is the transfer of energy through electromagnetic waves.

Task

Task: To help the Students learn about the energy transfer ways Conduction, Convection, and Radiation in this webquest.

Process

1. Convection in energy transfer. Convection in energy transfer is the movement of heat by a fluid such as water or air. The fluid (liquid or gas) moves from one location to another, transferring heat along with it. This movement of a mass of heated water or air is called a current. For example hot air rising above a fire, ice melting, Sea breeze or land breeze caused by a difference in pressure, and blood circulation in warm-blooded animals are all types of examples of Convection in energy transfer.

2. Conduction in energy transfer. Conduction is the transfer of heat energy from one substance to another or within a substance. For example ironing of clothes is an example of conduction where the heat is conducted from the iron to the clothes, heat is transferred from hands to ice cube resulting in the melting of an ice cube when held in hands, and heat conduction through the sand at the beaches are all types of examples of Conduction in energy transfer.

Conclusion

3. Radiation in energy transfer. Radiation in energy transfer is Radiation is the transfer of energy through electromagnetic waves. For example the sun, light bulbs, irons, and toasters are all types of examples of Radiation in energy transfer.Thermal Radiation | CK-12 FoundationHeat Transfer: Definition, Types, And Examples
