Introduction
Hello Grade One
Today we will be learning about one of the four basic operations in Mathematics- Addition
Our objective for today's lesson is for you to be able to:
-
Recognize and make ten facts
-
Memorize and recall addition facts
-
Join two sets into one set having as many as ten members and show the relationship between the two sets using a number sentence.
Addition
When we add we join sets together. The number gets bigger, greater, or more when we add.
The answer we get when we add is called the total or sum.
Key Vocabulary: add, more, plus, greater, join, total, together, sum, altogether, and, combine
addition / Plus sign- equal sign
Task
Create 3 addition problems on your own.

1. On the left of the Mathigon screen click probability and data to get your die.
2. To get your ten frames select the word numbers on the left side of your screen.
Click the frames and drag it to the blank screen
Click the die and select roll to get the numbers.
5. Use the colored circle beside the ten frames on the left to represent your numbers.
-
Use counters of the same color to represent the number on the die on the ten frames.
-
Fill the empty spaces on the ten frames with counters of another color.

This Webquest is designed to give students an opportunity to develop and apply their knowledge of addition.
It was created to teach Grade One students how to use the basic operation with numbers and number patterns.
Unit Title: My School
Focus Question: How do I know my school?
Benchmark 1.1.9:
Compute with whole numbers quickly and accurately: use these skills to find answers or to make decisions in realistic (problem) situations.
Attainment Target: Students will be able to:
-
Use the basic operation with numbers and number pattern
Prerequisite knowledge: Students should already know how to:
-
Identify counting and whole numbers up to 10
-
Recognize the number names from 1-10
-
Demonstrate
-
Use sets to represent numbers
-
Use the plus and equal signs correctly to complete Mathematical sentences
