Introduction
Welcome to the crazy kitchen here at Heritage Hill Elementary! While completing this WebQuest, you will use your amazing knowledge of the internet and your strength in solving problems to become an expert party planner! Don’t forget to follow all the directions by using your phenomenal understanding of fractions when you are planning! Thanks for your help! Now, let’s get started!
Task
Your teacher is in REALLY big trouble! You know how Ms. Hoskins likes all of her ducks, or should we say students and teachers, in a row and this has some teachers taking on a lot of responsibilities at the beginning of the school year. However, we also know how your math teacher, Mrs. Smith, does so much at your school and she almost forgot to plan your classroom barbecue for Back-to-School night! This event is in a couple of days and she needs your help deciding what recipes to use!
Process
You will have to use your strong understanding of fractions to make sure that the recipes are just right! For Back-to-School night, you need to find a recipe for one main dish, two side dishes, and of course…dessert! YUMMY!
You will be working in groups of four to find delicious recipes for this Back-to-School event. Team members will draw cards to determine your party planning role - Main Dish, Side Dish, Side Dish, Dessert
Step 1: Recipe Search
Use the links below to find recipes for a main dish, Two side dishes, and a dessert
Raise your hand for my approval before copying the recipe onto a recipe card. Recipes should not have more than eight ingredients.
Step 2: Measurement Conversion
• Triple the main dish
• Double one side dish
• Half one side dish
• Quadruple the dessert
Step 3: Recipe Card
Make sure you have all your computations done neatly on the paper provided. Write your converted recipe on the new card. (see resoource below)

* Recipe card (with the original recipe)
* Work showing how you converted the recipes
* New recipe card with the converted recipe
Conclusion
Oh my goodness! Mrs. Smith is so thankful for all of your help! She couldn't be more pleased with the way that the Back-to-School barbecue turned out. The recipes were amazing. Ms. Hoskins couldn't stop raving about how delicious and yummy the desserts were. She also couldn't stop tweeting pictures of all of the fantastic dishes that she tasted! Everyone knows she is one tough cookie. Teachers are pretty sure they saw her sneak some extra desserts into her purse when she didn't think anyone was looking. You all did a phenomenal job converting the recipes in order to feed all of the students and staff that attended the event at Heritage Hill! Well done!!!
