Increasing the Creativity

Introduction

WebQuest topic: Increasing the Creativity

To capture the students' attention, we start the lesson with an entertaining game.

This activity is called the “30 Circles” challenge, and it is an icebreaker designed to encourage creative confidence. It is a great activity to start a brainstorming session, or a session to solve a complex problem.

STEP 1: Give each participant one of the 30 Circles worksheets and something to write with. Ask them to turn as many of the circles as possible into a recognizable object in 7 minutes.

STEP 2: After 7 minutes, compare results! Ask how many people filled in 10, 15, 20, or more circles. Ask for some examples. Did participants use patterns (for example, multiple sports balls)? Did anyone “break the rules” and combine circles?

STEP 3: Sharing and reflecting on what similarities there were and encouraging students’ collaboration.

Task

To explain the activity, show students two separate items:

Then we ask what happens when we combine two things together, discuss the response and show the result! (10 min)

The next activity is “New out of two”

Divide the class into small groups and explain the instruction!

Take two separate products and find a way to combine them. For example, you could use two common daily tools, like a stapler and a tape dispenser, or a bag and umbrella to create an interesting new product. (15 min)

Examining their products while wearing the "Six-thinking hats"

Six thinking hats is another strategy used to evaluate the optimization of a product or idea. In a group or small team "wears" one of the hats. (10 min)

When reviewing the idea in question, each "hat" maintains its assigned perspective:

Logic: The logic hat represents the facts related to the product or idea.

Optimism: The optimism hat represents the possibilities for the product or idea with no barriers.

Judgment: The judgment hat addresses the challenges or problems with the product or idea by considering the opposite point of view.

Emotion: The emotion hat represents the feelings or perceptions associated with the project or idea.

Creativity: The creativity hat introduces new ideas or possibilities for the idea or product.

Management: The management hat oversees the discussion and makes sure the team represents all perspectives.

Process

- Encourage learners to explore different forms of artistic expression and creative writing.

- Artistic expression helps students to assign art projects that allow them to explore different mediums and techniques, and provide opportunities for them to showcase their creativity.

 - Provide them with examples, resources, and prompts to spark their imagination. This can include exposing them to various art styles, literary genres, and creative works.

 - Encourage learners to brainstorm ideas for their artistic expression or writing project. This can involve mind mapping, freewriting, or creating mood boards.

- Encourage them to think broadly and generate as many ideas as possible before narrowing down their options.

- Allowing them to express themselves freely and explore different creative writing styles encourages students to think outside the box and use their imagination.

- Problem-solving can involve designing inventions, creating new products, or finding innovative approaches to real-world issues.

It encourages them to brainstorm ideas and think critically to come up with creative solutions.

Evaluation

To evaluate student understanding, the following methods can be employed:

  • Class Discussion: depends on the student's creativity and engagement during the discussion
  • Group Activity: through collaboration, i.e., depends on how well the class works together and is creative.
  • Individual working: based on each person's ability to express themselves
Conclusion

At the end of the lesson, we discuss what the students have learned from today's lesson and useful information.

We listen to their new ideas and opinions. We ask them about other questions and answer them together.

As an educator, one of my goals is to get students to engage with the curriculum. With the right approach, creative lesson plans can introduce new opportunities to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills among our students, as well as help children to develop their own original ideas.

Teacher Page

This lesson explores creative thinking and encourages students to use creativity in problem-solving. Including activities and brain-teasers to get students thinking.

Creativity is an important life skill because it allows individuals to think outside the box, solve problems, and come up with innovative ideas. It also promotes self-expression, boosts mental health, and enhances personal and professional development, making it a valuable asset in various areas of life.

Knowledge Constructor:

Students should be able to critically evaluate and curate information from various sources to construct their understanding of creativity. They should demonstrate the ability to gather reliable information using digital tools and resources, and effectively organize and present their findings during the group presentation.

Empowered Learner:

Students should take ownership of their learning and use technology to explore and discover information about creativity. They should demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and self-direction in the research process.

Global Partner:

Students need to use digital tools and resources to connect and collaborate with different abilities and their expression. They must also demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team, both face-to-face and online.
