                  Identifying if a noun is countable or uncountable is important because it can help you construct a sentence.

Task

Hello dear students!

Today you will be identifying Countable and uncountable nouns. Also, you will be learning that Countable nouns can be preceded by the indefinite article β€œa” or β€œan,” or by a number, whereas uncountable nouns cannot. Let's have some practice!

You will use the following resources to complete the activities in given order:

  • Level & Age:

Second Grade with 7 or 8 years old.

  • Class description:

ESL pull-out group. There are 11 students in this class with a low English proficiency level.

On level for reading but need practice grammatical rules and pronunciation skills.

  • Content objectives:

Students will be able to identify things that are countable and uncountable.

Students will be able to use the correct words before countable nouns, including articles (i.e., a, an, and the), determiners (e.g., some), or numbers, and use the correct words before uncountable nouns, including the article the and determiners (e.g., some).

  • Language objectives:

Students will be able to recognize and explain the difference between countable and uncountable nouns, use articles, determiners, or numbers according to language structures.

  • Prerequisites: Students should already be familiar with

Articles (i.e., a, an, and the), nouns, plural forms of countable nouns (i.e., -s, -es, -ies), the present perfect tense, and gerunds.

My tips and strategies:

There will be challenges along the way and questions about how to log in or how to verify my work.

You can register on the online resources of the different websites and assign the activities to your students and check their work.

In addition, you can print and photocopy task 6.

  • Differentiation:

Allow fast learners or higher students to work on the challenge activities. If possible check assigned the activities according to their levels or divide by groups. For example: Group 1 will complete activity 1 and Group 2 will complete activity 2.
