Insects

Introduction

Welcome to the world of Insects!  In this WebQuest, you will be learning about different types of insects.  We will learn what they do, what they look like, and how they help us.  By gaining this knowledge, you will be more informed on various types of insects in the world.

In using this WebQuest to learn about insects, you will be using technology to access different types of websites.  In doing so, you will gain experience in using both computers and the internet.

Let's have fun learning about insects through music, books, and art!

Task

1.  The children will engage in conversation after watching a video on insects (recall information).

2.  The students will use music to learn about insect body parts.

3.  The children will answer questions and create an insect after hearing a story about them.

Process

Step One - Each child should use the voice command to find a video link about insects, so they can learn more about them.  An example of a kid friendly video that can be used: https://youtu.be/iJlfBNyBKQA . Tell someone what you learned from the video about insects.  It's amazing to watch insect in their natural environment!

Step Two - To learn about the unique parts of insects, the students will find a song and express their learning through performance.  Have a friend learn the song with you.  An example of a insect body part song:  https://youtu.be/-YJzCuJzMGw

Step Three - Use a "Read to Me" book on Epic about insects.  Review the body parts of an insect and learn more about insects in our world.  A recommended reading:  Incredible Insects by Kelli Hicks.  The last page of the story has some facts learned that the students can answer.  After hearing the story, the students will create an insect of their choosing.

The total estimated time to complete the tasks in this WebQuest is approximately 15-20 minutes, depending on the amount of discussion that is involved between the adult and child during each task.
