Introduction

Have you ever try to cook a traditional dish or dance a traditional dance from a country  other than Belize? 

With this project you will become an expert in some key cultural aspects of a Spanish speaking country and you will share that information with others.

This project can boost your desire to travel and get a firsthand experience of other cultures. By understanding other people's cultural background, you will develop more respect for their way of life.

Task

Your group will conduct research on different aspects of a selected Hispanic country, and you will present your findings to the rest of the class using a poster board or Slides presentation with audio-visual aids and when possible, include samples of food, clothing, music, and dance etc. Your research will include:

  • Creencias religiosas

(Religious beliefts)

Research on some of the religious practices/believes and support your findings using images.

  • Música & bailes típicos

(music and dance)

Research about a native dance /music and share brief information. You can add a short video or prepare a short dance or sing/play a short authentic song.
  • Comidas tipicas

(Authentic food)

Find out about one typical dish and explain what the dish is made of. Show pictures or bring a sample on the day of your presentation.
  • Celebraciones 

(Celebrations)

 

Mention at least 2 National celebrations and explain them in detail. Show pictures depicting the celebrations.
  • Ropa/trajes tipicos

(Authentic cultural Attire)

Show pictures of at least 2 traditional attire and briefly give explanation about them. Or  have 1 or 2 members of the group wear an example of the attire.
Process

#1 Form groups of 6 and complete duty sheet given by the teacher.

#2 Select a Hispanic country.

#3 Share duties, conduct online research & record relevant information.

#4 Work on your individual & group tasks to prepare your presentation. Your group will present ONLY in Spanish

#5 On the assigned day your group will do a 15-20 minute presentation using a slide show or poster boards.

 

PLEASE NOTE :

  •  Your PowerPoint must have no more than 12 slides OR you will use 2-3 Bristol board) or 1 presentation board (trifold)

  • Written information will be minimal since you will not be reading from your posters/slides, instead you will use pictures/images/videos etc. to support your presentation.

  • Since you will present ONLY in Spanish, each student is entitled to use ONLY 1 index card with pointers if necessary.

  • If for any reason you are absent on the day of your presentation, then you will need to prepare a 5-page booklet with all the required information.

This research will lead to the creation of slides presentation/ posters that is attractive and informative but is not filled with blocks of text.  This poster must catch a viewer’s eye.  It will be a visual representation of most of your research.  Your poster should be an advertisement for your country.

 

The content of your slides/posters, planning, attention to detail and effort are the components that will be used to determine your grade. I am not looking for pages just printed out from the Internet. 

 

Your presentation to the class will cover not only the contents of your poster but also additional information you learned when you researched your country.  ( play music, display food samples, bring artifacts, video, dance
