Webquest group Project

Introduction

In this webquest students will be provided a topic guided by the teacher on this interactive digital platform

Task

Subject: English Language

Topic: Letter Writing

Grade 4

Objective:

  • Students will be able to write a friendly letter in the correct format.
  • Build their literacy skills
  • Begin by asking students if they have ever written a letter before.
  • If so, what kind of letters have they written?
  • What do they remember about writing letters?
  1. Modeling:
  • Next, model the process of writing a friendly letter.
  • Write a letter to a friend or family member, and show students how to format the letter correctly.
  • Be sure to include all of the necessary parts of a friendly letter:
    • Heading
    • Greeting
    • Body
    • Closing
    • Signature
  1. Practice:
  • Once you have modeled the process of writing a friendly letter, give students the opportunity to practice writing their own letters.
  • They can write to a friend, family member, or even a pen pal.
  • Be sure to provide students with plenty of time to write their letters.
  1. Assessment:
  • Once students have finished writing their letters, you can assess their work in a variety of ways.
  • You can read their letters and provide feedback, or you can have students share their letters with the class.
  • You can also have students complete a quiz or worksheet on the parts of a friendly letter.

Extension:

  • If students are interested, you can extend this lesson by having them create their own stamps or envelopes.
  • You can also have them research different types of letters, such as business letters, formal letters, and thank-you letters.

Differentiation:

  • For students who need more support, you can provide them with a graphic organizer to help them plan their letters.
  • You can also provide them with a checklist of the parts of a friendly letter.
  • For students who are ready for a challenge, you can have them write a letter to someone they admire, such as a celebrity or a historical figure.

Conclusion

Student feedback:

  • Improved writing skills: Writing letters helps students improve their writing skills in a number of ways. They have to think about what they want to say and how they want to say it, and they have to use correct grammar and spelling.
  • Increased creativity: Letter writing can be a creative outlet for students. They can use their imagination to tell stories, describe their experiences, or share their thoughts and feelings.
  • Enhanced communication skills: Letter writing helps students develop their communication skills. They have to learn how to express themselves clearly and concisely, and they have to be able to listen to and respond to the other person's thoughts and feelings.
  • Strengthened relationships: Letter writing can help students strengthen their relationships with friends, family, and pen pals. It is a personal way to connect with others and share what is going on in their lives.

Teacher Approach:

  • Direct instruction: In this approach, the teacher would directly teach students the different parts of a letter, such as the heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature. The teacher would also provide students with examples of well-written letters.
