ERA ONLINE Training Engagement Quest

Introduction

This is a short web quest to with interactive elements on the topic of engagement, focus and attention span.

Task

Watch a short video:

https://youtu.be/kVRzBwZVdow

In pairs or groups discuss:

- the key topic of the video and how it is related to engagement and training.

- how this analogy can be "translated" into online training events

Process

Why is it important for both in-person and online learners to interact?

What might the online learners do when they have issues with connection or have unstable broadband?

What might the learners do when they experience loss of focus or start having difficulty paying attention?

What is synchronous and what is asynchronous learning and how are those two different types of training/learning or content relevant for online training?

Evaluation

Do you make sure to have asynchronous content available to online students if they lose the connection?

Do you make sure to include a varied range of synchronous activities which involve learners participating actively /speaking, discussing, analysing, problem solving, synthesising, creating?

Do you attend or get offered methodology training so that so that you  can use various tools enhancing engagement and know how to prepare interactive online content usable by both in-person and online learners?

Conclusion

What  best practices for online training events based on this quest could you come up with?

What are your key personal and professional takeaways from this quest if any?

What was engaging about this quest and what no so much?

Credits

Did you get a chance

- to elaborate on attention span, focus and engagement?

- to think about online tools, interactivity, in-person and online e-learner engagement, synchronous and asynchronous content?

- to test a quest tool?
