Persepolis: An Introduction to a Revolution & Islam

Introduction

WELCOME TO OUR ONLINE JOURNEY!!!

This Webquest is intended to give you a background on the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the events leading up to and surrounding the graphic memoir Persepolis.  Having a better understanding of the political climate and culture of the time in Iran will lead to a more enriching reading experience.

Like many authors we have explored thus far, Marjane is formed by her chaotic environment which led to the identity of Satrapi (the author and main character of the book), students should be able to start reflecting on the events, culture, and people around them who have formed their own identity.

Task

To Start, for everyone:

Timeline - Timeline of Modern Iran and its revolutions.

Within your groups, divide up the following tasks and create a presentation through PowerPoint or Prezi which you can share with the class.- *** THIS IS MEANT AS AN OVERVIEW NOT AN IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS***

Below are the groups- skim through the material and create a unified piece.  You do NOT need to cover every aspect of every website! You can also look to other sources.   Be sure to add a works cited page at the end of your presentation.

The presentation can be 5-10 minutes- NO MORE!!!!

You have the remainder of class to work through this and you can also add SOME tonight!
