What can we learn from animals and their offsprings?

Introduction

We are taking a virtual field trip. We are going to visit an animal that lives in North America. Virtual field trip, we will collect information and talk about what we notice and wonder. You will complete this virtual trip with a partner.

We will find information to answer our essential question: What can we learn from animals and their children?

Task

After finishing this virtual field trip, we will complete our learning goals. Our learning goals are:

1-LS1-2. I can read a text and watch a video to learn how animal parents help their offspring survive.

1-LS3-1 I can make observations to explain three ways baby animals are similar to animal parents.

Before we begin, let's think-pair-share. Looking at this photograph,

  2. Write and draw information about adult porcupines
  3. Write and draw information about porcupettes

1-LS1-2 Read texts and use media to determine patterns in behavior of parents and offspring that help offspring survive.

1-LS3-1 Make observations to construct an evidence-based account that young plants and animals are like, but not exactly like, their parents.
