Our E-Z Guide To Menstruation & The Menstrual Cycle

Introduction

So.....you want to be a doctor?  Learning about the male and female reproductive systems is just PART of your job.  Your next assignment is to educate 10-12 year old girls about menstruation and the menstrual cycle. This is the age when most girls have their first period.  It is important to prepare them before it happens with all the information they may need.  The hospital wants you to create a tri-fold brochure that can answer any questions these girls may have regarding those topics.  We are relying on you to produce a brochure with some WOW factor!  Don't let us down.

Task

Use the links and videos provided in this WebQuest to research and find information on menstruation and the menstrual cycle that you can use for your hospital brochure.  Use the information to make a menstruation/menstrual cycle brochure for the hospital.  There are several things that should be included in this brochure to make it a success -

1. What is menstruation?  What age does it typically start?

2. What should a girl expect when they have their first period?

3. What is the menstrual cycle? How long does it last?

4. What is PMS?  What period "problems" may occur for females?

5. Period vs. Pregnancy - What happens in each scenario?

***Use proper vocabulary to discuss the entire process (ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, etc.)

Process

It is recommended that you fold a blank piece of paper and outline/sketch what you want your brochure to look like before you begin creating it in Google Drawing.

Use the Google Drawing template provided in Google Classroom to create a brochure about menstruation and the menstrual cycle. The brochure should have the WOW factor and provide information about the entire menstrual cycle process. Please also note all of the female reproductive organs involved in the menstrual cycle and their function(s).

Evaluation

Your tri-fold brochure will be evaluated on the following:

1. Did you include of all the information necessary to answer questions related to menstruation & the menstrual cycle?

2. Does your brochure have the WOW factor?  Does it have lots of color?  Different shapes?  Creative text/fonts?  Diagrams?

3. Was all of the information included in the brochure organized and easy to read?

Conclusion

The hospital is looking forward to publishing your tri-fold brochure!  Using all of your incredible research and creative design skills will definitely score you some bonus points with the hospital administrators!  Hopefully you can build upon this assignment and become one of the very best doctors to work at this hospital in the future.  We would like to thank you for your efforts.
