Introduction
ATTENTION
ALL third graders must be ready and prepared for one of the toughest obstacles their arithmetic brain has yet to encounter. Get Ready! Stay Focused! And demonstrate the hard effort I know you are capable of! You are about to embark on a “Place Value” journey that will put your knowledge to the test, strengthen your brain with numerous place value missions, and involve a treasure hunt to find those place values! In a “place” of hunting and searching for those inscrutable answers prove your warrior “value” in learning it in each digit of a number.
Task
- Place Value Chart: (represent the given number on the place value chart using counters and write the numbers of hundreds, tens, and ones below it) This will give students the ability to represent the value of the place of a number and describe what that value is.
- Place Value Digit Recognition: (write the place value of the underlined digit) This will give students practice recognizing the value of a number's place within reading the number.
- Place Value Addition and Subtracting sheet (This will show students how they can add and subtract using place value which includes compilation by transforming a variety of information into a common format)
- Place Value Scavenger Hunt with QR Codes: (A creative product: This will give students practice of place value aspects and end with the student’s ability to depict the value of each digit in a number.)
- Place Value Workshop Games: (This will end with the student’s attention-grabbing and engaging them in the content practice.)
- Song Listening: (To grab the students’ attention and end with them engaged.
- Create Video for reflection on the process leading up to the hunt and then the scavenger hunt itself: (For the students to practice retelling and demonstrate their understanding.)
Process
Process for the WebQuest:
- First, you will read the introduction piece that explains your overall job.
- Then you will be directed to a video on place values for review.
- Next, you will go to the link for adding and subtracting using place values.
- You then get to go on a game site and play two games of your choice that include place value in them.
- Then you will complete the Place Value Chart.
- After that, you will listen to the place value song.
- Lastly, you will do the place value scavenger hunt using the QR codes.
- After you complete all of the above you will be required to make a reflection video discussing each assignment you just did and what you did in order to get through each task, speak of your adventures and challenges (aspects of the work you struggle with) you face throughout the mission. Explain how the scavenger hunt went for you. Were you able to find everything? Describe all of these things in a brief explanation video. The video should be made using the video maker tool. Be creative and think like a hunter!
- Post your video to the Platform for assignment uploads and watch your peers' videos as well. Try and distinguish anything that your peers learned that you didn't or that you learned in your peers didn't. you don't need to write anything out for this part of the assignment it's solely just for reflection on what you know and learn.

Expectations for Evaluation
100 points total, 25 points for each dimension.
Completion: Was each assignment completed? (25 points)
Performance: Was there a great effort put into each task? (25 points)
Skill Gain: Did students pick up on any of the necessary skills to recognizing place value in each task? (25 points)
Conclusion
By the end of this WebQuest, students will have achieved differential place value aspects. Students will have been able to understand the meaning behind a digit’s place in a number. Soon it will have gained the ability to recognize which value each student holds in a number. Students will have learned processes of speaking on the value of another place and be able to now explain the place value to another individual. Students will have been able to reflect on their self-work and assessment to understand they're only learning and growing.

Place Value Scavenger Hunt
3rd Grade Math, Place Value
Learning Place Values
Standards from the GA standards of Excellence: “Number and Operations in Base Ten” (Understand Place Value, use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract.)
ISTE Standards for Students:
- 1.3.d “Students build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and theories, and pursuing answers and solutions.”
- 1.5.c “Students break problems into component parts, extract key information and develop descriptive models to understand complex systems or facilitate problem-solving.”
This WebQuest incorporates exercises where students will write numbers in expanded, picture, and word form to help students get a grasp of place value. To improve students' proficiency and comprehension of place value for their fundamental mathematical concepts, WebQuest will feature activities that require students to identify the place value of numbers in various forms and give them preparation for differential addition and subtraction operations. At the end of the WebQuest, a scavenger hunt will help students gauge their level of proficiency and practice, which they should have acquired through the other tasks and earlier class discussions.
