Household Product Creation

Introduction

In the upcoming weeks your County is hosting an innovative design fair.

The goal of the fair is to identify innovative products that could potentially be used to assist the daily living of people from third world countries.

You will present the judges with a prototype and written report for the chance to receive $20,000 in seed money for your innovative idea to be produced and used in suitable places.

Task

Part 1:

You're tasked with researching and becoming an expert with the typical home type or living situation from one of the countries on the list provided. You will identify a commonly used product or item within a household (of this region of the world) that could be improved upon or replaced. This should be a desired product (need or leisure) within their household to improve their daily living.

Part 2:

After you've identified a problem or helpful leisure that could be used within a household of this region of the world, you will design, create, and test an innovative product that can be effectively used within the household type that you researched and studied.

Part 3:

Put together a short presentation (investment pitch) showcasing how your innovative product helps solves a (problem, annoyance, or non-leisure) within the average household of the region you researched.

Please Note: You should be able to answer questions on the type of home and main products within the home of the area in the world that you researched. Your product creation should also be cognitive of the supplies and materials that are readily available in this part of the world as well.

List of Countries (able to research):

  1. Central African Republic - 0.367

  2. South Sudan - 0.388

  3. Chad - 0.404

  4. Burundi - 0.417

  5. Sierra Leone - 0.419

      6.Mali - 0.427

*If you have a region of the world or a country you would like to choose that is not on this list please let your teacher know and they will discuss the possibility of letting that happen!

Process

Steps to product creation:

1. Choose an area in the world from the provided list.

2. Research the average home type and household materials/items within homes in this area of the world. Write (3-4) sentences of the home type and main products found within these homes to help explain the culture and materials that this region of the world has and utilizes.

3. Create a list of several items that you enjoy in the place that you live.

4. Using your lists created above, creatively think of an innovative product idea that could be provided to the household type that you researched. Think of a way to re-create something that provides you with leisure at home with the materials that are present and readily available in that part of the world that you chose.

Evaluation
Conclusion

Please re-read through the process and task instructions to ensure that you have completed all parts of the assignment.

If you have ensured all aspects of the assignment have been met you can begin practicing a short 3-5min presentation on your research findings and pitch your idea that you think would be helpful and attainable for one of the third world countries from our list.

Judges will score your presentation based on the grading rubric provided to you on the Evaluation page. There will be three finalists chosen by the teacher judges present and later a final winner chosen based on a class wide vote from the three finalists!

Good Luck!
