Revolutionary war

Introduction

The Articles of Confederation were formed because after the colonists gained independence, they realized they needed a new form of government. The Articles of Confederation was the first written constitution of the United States. It was made so the government wouldn't have much power and the people could have more power. The Articles of Confederation ultimately failed because the government had too little control of the people such as when congress couldn't tax the citizens, so representatives from all of the states, except Rhode Island, met at the Constitutional Convention and made the Constitution.

Task

You will be writing a 5 paragraph essay about the Articles of Confederation. Research the Articles of Confederation using a variety of sites. This is an inquiry-based assessment and you will be writing a 5 paragraph essay of approximately 500 words about the Articles after your research is complete. An example website is https://www.britannica.com/topic/Articles-of-Confederation

There are two options:

  •  Option A: you can write about to lead-up to the Articles of Confederation – for example, the end of the revolutionary war and the new America.

  • Option B: You can write about how the Articles were weak and ultimately failed; for example, there was no executive branch and it was very hard to pass laws.

Process

You should talk about the following in your essay:

  • When were the Articles established?

  • What are some strengths of the article?

  • Why were they weak?

  • Who made them?

  • What were some aspects of them?

  • You will have 7 days to work on your essays and should write a paragraph a day. You will have one day to conduct research, one day for peer editing, and four periods to write; the final product will be due on day 7.
