Ethnobotanical promise

Introduction

Ok learners, today we will be looking at plants and why they are so important. In Ethnobotany, we study where a plant comes from and how the native people of that region use the plant and why it is important for us to preserve and respect these plants. We will look at the water 'lily' or 'lotus' flower and making observations on how they are used in modern times and how they are used in the past. This is very important today as people tend to see plants as something to be taken advantage of.

Task

Students will look into plant origins and their uses, and compare the modern uses of the plant with their respective native functions. Look at resources and provide a paragraph with native uses/values/cultivation on your plant of choice and a paragraph on how the plant is seen, used, and cared for in modern day, separate from its native people. They will provide 5 sentences each paragraph.

SWBAT; research plants using different mediums, make observations in modern and historical contexts, compare and contrast native use of plants with modern use of plants, and have the ability to discover where a plant originates and its possible uses..
