Task

Learners have a responsibility to do a short classroom activity that will be provided to them after the lesson has been taught, after the classroom activity they will have to do corrections (porreferably work on their own first and then I start correcting the one they got wrong). After the corrections, learners should now be taking a homework provided just to check whether or not they all understood the lesson. Learners should be able to understand what VAT is, understand the difference between inclusive and exclusive VAT, ve able to calculate VAT. The activity is as follows:

1. What is the difference between inclusive VAT and Exclusive VAT?

2. Give two items that are VAT Exclusive

3. What does UIF stands for?

4. Who are the people that can qualify to claim a UIF?

5. What is the percentage for each person between an employer and an employee, that contributes towards the UIF?

Process

(Full notes should be attached) Execution of the lesson, giving learners Handouts and demonstrating the information. Explaining the meaning of VAT, inclusive and exclusive VAT, telling the learners that VAT is 15%, Explaining to the learners what UIF means, Explaining how to calculate UIF. Showing learners how to calculate VAT and UIF in the correct sequence. Giving learners a short classroom activity as a form of assessment. Learners are take down notes, ask any possible questions where they do not understand, participate in the classroom activity, they discuss the possible answers amongst themselves and work together in pairs. Refer to textbooks and posters into the classroom in order to understand the work and ve able to do problem solving. Learners can find the video of the process of claiming your UIF on the following link: http://www.saaccountingnetwork.co.za/retrenchment-m.html

Conclusion

From my observation, half of the class truly understood the lesson, brought out the learning outcomes I had on the beginning of the lesson and were very participative. I concluded this when I gave them a responsibility to work on the answers of the class activity by themselves and they got all of the answers correctly and took down corrections where some got the answers wrong. I urged and encouraged the learners to work as a team, feel comfortable in assisting one another because they understand each other better. I advised the learners to feel comfortable in the classroom and take ownership because the lessons are for them and so they have to participate after I provided my part which is execution of the lesson.
