Introduction
Why learn functional Anatomy?
This WebQuest is designed to help students develop the fundamental base of knowledge and reference for strength training. It is not possible to appropriately participate in strength training if one does not know the muscles they will be working or the joint movements created by muscle contraction. This WebQuest will help students identify the major surface muscles that are often trained during strength training. Once this functional anatomy is learned and applied to skill work, the student will develop a deeper understanding of how the human body works.
Task
Practice
Students will use the following web based practice sites to learn where muscles are on the body.
- Real Body Work: Students should complete this exercise as many times as necessary to complete each level. Once the level has been completed, the student should take a screen shot of the completed level and move to the next level. Once all 3 levels have been completed, students will submit the screen shots on the canvas assignment.
- McGraw Hill Online Learning Center: Students should complete view 1 for each of the muscle groups. Once view has been completed, the student should take a screen shot of the completed muscle group and move to the next one. Once each muscle group view has been completed, students will submit the screen shots on the canvas assignment.
Process
Play
Students will use the following web based games to enhance their ability to identify muscles. Muscle identification comes with repeated review and engaging practice.
- This game is called Poke-a-Muscle. It has 3 levels to work through. Each level has a scan practice where you will identify the muscle by hovering over it, then it has an actual practice where you will attempt to identify the muscles they game calls out. Complete all 3 levels. Upon completion, you should take a screen capture and submit that to the Canvas assignment.
- The next game is on the website free anatomy quiz. Play each quiz game and record your score. After each game capture an image of your score. Submit each score photo on the Canvas assignment.

| Exercise |
Students should copy this table into a google document and enter the appropriate information. The body parts are labeled. Students need to fill in the muscles associated with those body parts and then the appropriate exercises that work that body part. Students should be able to provide at least 3 exercises per body part. This will be submitted on Canvas.
Conclusion
This multi-day WebQuest was intended to supplement leaning that has already occurred in class. With the repetition and the learning activities along with table evaluating the student's ability to identify muscle groups and the exercises that work them it is the expectation that students will begin to commit functional anatomy and movement to their long term memory to benefit them as they embark on a fitness lifestyle.
