Business Studies Grade 11 Forms of ownership

Task

 

Julie                                                            John                                             Bryan and Andrew

             

 

Meet Julie, John, Bryan and Andrew, all aiming to start a business in 2023. They are unfamiliar with the forms of ownership that exist. As a grade 11 student you are quite familiar with forms of owners as you’ve done it in grade 10.

In Groups of 4, you must advise them on the most suitable form of ownership that meets all their requirements. As a group, create a Power Point presentation using a minimum of TWO slides, include the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the most appropriate forms of ownership for each of them. You may include images or graphs. Ensure that all the details of the group members are clear on the cover of your presentation.

Due date: 11 September 2022

Requirements:

Julie

  • Wants something that is quick and easy to start
  • She wants ALL the profits for herself
  • She doesn’t want the struggle of filling out formal documents and financial records

John

  • Wants to give back to his community and is not worried about making a profit
  • He wants to hire a director (James) to run the day-to-day duties at the business
  • He doesn’t want to lose his personal possessions

Bryan and Andrew

  • They have Two more friends who would like to join the business
  • Andrew wants to pay his own tax
  • Bryan doesn’t want to be the only one responsible for all the day to day duties
Process

                      

In order to complete the task students should follow the following strategies (steps):

Step 1

Join a group and determine who is responsible for completing which task:

Suggestion:

  • Bryan & Andrew [1 person]

 

Step 2

Getting started and acquiring the necessary information to complete the task. Now that each group member knows their responsibilities, they can part ways to do their respective parts on the own.

Remember to set a date to hand everyone’s part to the person responsible for the power point.

Step 3   

Completion of task once the power point is complete the group should ensure that everyone is happy with the presentation and the forms of ownership that was suggested for each person [Julie, John, Bryan and Andrew].

The Forms of Ownership

 

The students chose the correct form of ownership for all three entrepreneurs.

 

 

The students chose only 2 out of the 3 forms of ownership correctly.

Content Knowledge

 

 

The students had excellent content knowledge and was able to provide the entrepreneurs with the knowledge they require to make a decision.

 

 

The students had some content knowledge and was able to provide the entrepreneurs with some knowledge.

 

The students content knowledge is very weak and needs improvement.

 

 

 

Power Point Presentation

 

 

The presentation includes appropriate and easily understood content and visual aids.

 

 

The presentation includes some visual aids, but the content is in a format that makes it difficult to understand.

 

 

The presentation includes no visual aids and the content is very poorly presented, hardly any content information present.

 

 

 

 

 

Communication

 

 

The presentation is creative and effective in conveying suggestions to the audience.

 

 

The presentation techniques used are effective in getting the main ideas across, but a bit unimaginative.

 

 

The presentation does not capture the audience's interest and/or is confusing as to what is being communicated.

 

 

 

 

 

Group work

 

 

Students did an excellent job working in a group as its clear in the work presented in the presentation.

 

 

Students were able to complete the task working in a group there is still room for improvement.

 

Students were unable to work in a group and it showed in their presentation.

Conclusion

After student completed the power point presentation Julie, John, Bryan and Andrew will now be able make a decision as to which form best suits them. As students they will now be able to see what they understand from the topic and what they may need to spend more time on.
