Land Regions in Ontario

Introduction

We have been learning about the different Land Regions in Ontario. We have studied the map of Canada and have taken a closer look at the region of Ontario.

Task

You will be researching a particular Land Region and answering the following questions:

  • What is the land used for?
  • What jobs are common in your Land Region?
  • What is the habitat like in your Land Region?
  • What type of transportation is common in your Land Region?
  • What are some natural resources available in your Land Region?
  • List 3 interesting facts about your region.
Process

In groups of 4, read through the following resources related to the Land Region you have been assigned. You will be answering your questions as a group and creating a presentation on your region. This presentation will be shared with the class. You have the option of choosing how you will display your information (ex, Prezi, Google Slides, Canva).

B3.4 identify and describe the main types of employment that are available in two or more municipal regions in Ontario (e.g., jobs dependent on natural resources; jobs in manufacturing, tourism and recreation, the service sector, education, government)

B3.5 describe major types of land use (e.g., for agriculture, industry, commerce, housing, recreation, transportation, conservation) and how they address human needs and wants.

Conclusion

Once you have answered all the questions and completed an engaging presentation, you will present it to the class to share your research and inform your audience about your Land Region. You will also listen to the presentations of your peers on the other two regions you did not research extensively.

This activity will serve as a collective research activity allowing students to become "experts" on one Land Region while also receiving information on the other two regions.
