Cell Research

Introduction

There are many advances in every aspect of scientific research. So, people who write about these things need to learn about what they are writing about. Not only this but they have to know what format to write on. What are some of the latest scientific discoveries about cells that you can find on the internet? I'm going to be summarizing this on this WebQuest.

Task

I am going to be learning as I research different things about cells. There are a few questions I will be answering along the way.

1. What do researchers think is one cause of memory impairment related to

growing older? What does new research show that may be able to help

reverse this process?

2. How might fat cells be able to help people with spinal cord injuries?

3. How are frog eggs being used in research involving human cells?

4.What are Schwann cells? How are they affected in multiple sclerosis

patients?

5.What role do cells play in preventing the stomach from digesting itself?

Process

I will show you some purposes that certain cells have. Well, why do older people experience memory loss? Most older people have decreased blood flow in their brain, which affects memory. It can be cured with certain drugs. What about people with spinal cord injuries? Well spinal cord paralysis can be cured with fat cells. They get transported into the spine. Frog eggs are being used for research, the researchers are using them to understand how to repair DNA damage. Did you know Schwann cells are used to stop blood-clotting Protein Thrombin from Damaging Nerves? Can the stomach digest itself? Well cells like epithelial cells, produce mucus, and prevent the stomach from digesting itself. These were just a few things that certain cells can do, what do you think was the most interesting?

1. Older people start having memory loss, why? Well older people experience decreased blood flow to the brain, which can affect memory. It can be cured by treatment with cholinesterase inhibitor drugs.

2. People with spinal cord damage can actually cure themselves. Fat cells can get transplanted into the spine which can cure spinal cord paralysis.

3.Frogs eggs are being used in research. They are being used to understand repair of DNA damages.

4.Schwann Cells Stop Blood-clotting Protein Thrombin from Damaging Nerves.

5. The stomach has epithelial cells, they produce mucus, this cell prevents the stomach from digesting itself. The production of bicarbonate also prevents the stomach from digesting itself.

Evaluation

Process

  • Needs to show that it took time collecting and summarizing information.

Web Summary

  • Needs an organized summary and clear information

Task

  • Needs attention to detail and needs accurate information

Conclusion

In conclusion, I have researched all of the answers for the questions about cells. I have also made a summary about the questions, and have completed the task.
