Information on Cells

Introduction

Although cells are the smallest unit of life, they are vital to an organism. Each cell has a special job that helps make up an organism. Since cells are so important for the well-being of a living thing, scientists often do research on them. New discoveries are found making us better understand our bodies. Without this research we wouldn't know much of cells, making us unknowledgeable of their importance.

Task

Learning about our bodies is important. By learning about cells, we learn what happens in our bodies, making us better understand our health, and learn about what is good for us and what is harmful. This is what this WebQuest will teach you, so let's begin.

Process

1. As you grow, your memory may worsen. This is because of the decrease in nerve cells in the brain. As each decade passes your brain shrinks and is not as efficient. This process can be reversed by not smoking or drinking, and not consuming poison. You can also reverse this process by stimulating the brain. Research shows that animals living in a healthy environment with lots of enrichment such as toys, puzzles, etc. help the brain.

2. It is studied that fat mature cells helped mice recover from spinal cord injuries. So, who says that they can't help humans? Animals with spinal cord injuries can use fat to treat it. The fat used to repair the injuries behaves a lot like nerve cells. Doctors are hopeful that's this treatment might help humans.

3. Frog eggs are shown to rejuvenate human cells. Doctors injected frog eggs into human nuclei from adult moose or white blood cells. The nuclei began to behave in a stem-like-way. This is because, after two days, a molecule named RNA appeared which helped convert DNA into proteins. Problems may start causing because of the injection, "Some genes may remain in their adult form, causing cells to divide and become cancerous".

4. Schwann cells are like "...the white lines on the side of the road and guard rails for our information highways in our brains and nerves throughout our bodies".  They are connected to multiple sclerosis because its patients bodies frequently target Schwann cells.

5: Your stomach is like a "crescent shaped hallow organ". Your stomach is made of a lot of layers. One of the layers is the mucosa. Bicarbonate is a solution, made by epithelial cells, that coats the mucosa. The frequent supply of bicarbonate helps the stomach from digesting itself.

Summary: Cells create a huge influence in our body. It be negative or positive. Decreasing nerve cells affect our brain, maybe one of the most important organs of our system. They also help operate our stomachs, crucial to digest food. Cells although small are huge in the affects and power they have in our body.

Evaluation

We have learned that new research is made frequently and it can be quite interesting.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I hope we have answered all the questions and you now understand the topics we wrote about. Thanks to research we can understand how cells work and how important they are to our bodies.
