Introduction
Have you ever heard the saying, "The big fish eats the little fish"? This saying addresses the idea of predator/prey relationships. A predator is an organism that eat another organism. Prey is the organism that the predator feeds on. At the end of this assignment, you will have a clear idea of what predator and prey relationships are. Watch the video below on more information on predator/prey relationships.
Task
You will have to create a Predator & Prey Picture book for this unit in class. For this assignment you will pick one predator of your choice and come up with three organisms that your predator might consider food. You may use examples of predators from this WebQuest or from your textbook, but please try to be creative with the prey organisms that you come up with.
Process
Once you have picked your Predator:
1.) Turn in your predator to Miss Hughes. There will be no doubles of predator per class.
2.) Pick 3 organisms that your predator would naturally prey on.
3.) Structure your picture book made of two sheets of white paper.
4.) Color the predator and prey organisms on your picture book (make sure to label the organisms, too).
5.) Once you have colored and labeled all of your organisms, turn your book into Miss Hughes to be graded.
Evaluation
| Category | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Graphics | The pictures of the organisms were well drawn and organized. | The pictures of the organisms could have been drawn better. | The organisms were unidentifiable due to the drawing. | There were no drawings of organisms. |
| Required Elements | The student included a predator and 3 organisms of prey. | The student only included a predator and 2 organisms of prey. | The student only included a predator and 1 organism of prey. | The student did not include any organisms of prey. |
| Labels | The student labeled all of the organisms in the picture book. | The student only labeled 2 of the 4 organisms in the picture book. | The student only labeled the predatory organism. | The student labeled no organisms. |
| Use of Class Time | The student worked diligently to complete the project in class. | The student worked on the project for only half of the class. | The student only worked on the project for 5 minutes of class. | The student never worked on the project in class. |
Conclusion
Congratulations! You have completed the Predator & Prey Picture Book of Miss Hughes's Biology Class! Now you have learned about what predators and prey are and you know specific examples of both kinds of organisms. Your Picture Books will be graded very soon & I hope to see lots of creativity from you all!

This WebQuest will inform students with information about the biological terms Predator and Prey. Even humans are predators, and it is important for students to realize that we can become prey to some predators.
