Sustainability Issues- Three Perspectives

Introduction

For todays activity, you must read multiple sources and watch some videos. The goal of todays lesson is to distinguish three perspectives on sustainability issues in the world today. I have attached three articles in this webquest that will help you distinguish the differences between political, economic, and cultural perspectives. I have also attached links to the United Nations sustainable development goals website, which will help you and your group members understand what sustainable goals and issues are. You must work in your table groups and converse with each other regarding the information you come across. After completing the webquest, the class will have a discussion/conversation about what you found in your groups. Everyone should attempt to participate in the class discussion. while discussion, we will create a table describing the differences between political, economic, and cultural perspectives of sustainability. If you have any questions makes sure you ask a neighbor before asking me.

Be prepared to discuss!!

Task

First, watch the video about sustainability and read the article in the link. This is quick introduction to sustainability and it should help you understand the basic definition. The next website attached under the "process" bar is from the United Nations, this should help you understand why sustainability is necessary for development. This site should also be used as a reference to the different perspectives you will research.

Next, read and watch the videos I provide regarding political perspectives, economic perspectives, and cultural perspectives. Keep in mind, the goal of today lesson is to identify the differences. You can use Google Docs or a pen and paper to take notes on what you find during your research. Keep in mind, you must use the provided site to compose talking points during the discussion. Pleas do not use other sites during this activity, they may not be reliable and they may not be accurate. If you have trouble finding talking points, please don't hesitate to ask me question. I am here to guide you!

After you have read all the articles, explored some sites, and watched some videos, discuss with your tablemates about what you have discovered about sustainability perspectives. Come up with talking points and make sure you share all your findings so everyone is one the same page. Be prepared to share with the whole class and write on the table we will complete as a class.

The last thing you will do for class is complete a Google Form. You must answer one question: "what are the differences between all three perspectives?" This will be the last aspect of todays lesson and it will be worth 5 points, please make sure you use the provided resources and the table we created in class. The Google Form is due at the end of the day, DON'T FORGET TO COMPLETE THE GOOGLE FORM!

If you have any questions, ask a neighbor before asking me :)
