HELLO STUDENTS AND WELCOME TO OUR WEBQUEST ON THE GREAT NAVIGATORS OF THE 15TH CENTURY!
Have you ever wanted to go back through time and explore the New World?
Become famous for finding new lands?
Well, get excited because today you get to become a famous explorer and have a famous discovery!
Now, gather all your shipmates, board a ship, and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime.
We hope that through this webquest you will be able to see the various motivations of the navigators of the past to make journeys into the unknown to discover new worlds.
Understanding those dynamics will require a little research to understand who the navigators were and in what context they lived.
Then it will be interesting to compare the past with the present to understand if today there is still the possibility to discover something.
Finally you can ask yourself: "Am I an explorer in my life?”
Task
Here is your mission:
You are a GREAT EXPLORER.
You set off with your crew to discover new lands.
While navigating it is necessary to write a logbook and draw the new uncovered lands on the map.
At the end of the expedition you will make a general report of your trip and celebrate the success of your discovery.
You are invited to create a report or a video using all the information found searching the websites provided in the resource section. (fine pannello)
Here is our work agenda:
Browse through the websites and resources provided, get the information you need and share with other group members on a shared file of Google.
In the second step, create a group multimedia presentation. Create digital products (short videos, posters, infographics, etc.) that tell your journey and your discoveries.
- In the third phase, make a common presentation where you can collect all the works for the final presentation to the class
To accomplish the task, you will have to not only work alone and in your group, but collaborate with other groups.

Process
Ecco la nostra agenda di lavoro:
- Nella prima fase della webquest naviga tra i siti web e le risorse fornite, ottieni le informazioni di cui hai bisogno e condividi con gli altri membri del gruppo su un file condiviso di Google.
Nella seconda fase creare una presentazione multimediale di gruppo. Create dei prodotti digitali (brevi video, poster, infografiche, ecc.) che raccontino il vostro viaggio e le vostre scoperte.
Nella terza fase realizzate una presentazione comune dove raccogliere tutti i lavori per la presentazione finale
Per realizzare il compito, dovrete non solo lavorare da soli e in gruppo, ma collaborare con gli altri gruppi suddividendovi e impersonando i seguenti esploratori:
Group 1 - BARTOLOMEO DIAZ (portuguese explorer)
Group 2 - VASCO DA GAMA (portuguese explorer)
Group 3 - CRISTOFORO COLOMBO (italian explorer)
Group 4 - AMERIGO VESPUCCI (italian explorer)
Group 5 - FERDINANDO MAGELLANO (portuguese explorer)
In ciascun gruppo, tutti dovranno lavorare uniti per raggiungere il risultato comune!
Per aiutarvi reciprocamente, ciascuno di voi avrà un ruolo:
1.Team leader --> coordina i lavori; tiene d’occhio il tempo; sollecita le scadenze
2.Team reporter --> riferisce sul progresso dei lavori; compila un report o una checklist
3. Organizer --> mappa i contenuti e li organizza per dare organicità al lavoro di gruppo
4. Lead researcher --> organizza il lavoro di ricerca; coordina i compagni nel reperimento delle risorse; costruisce una mappa degli argomenti da trattare

STEP 1 - EXPLORE
Una volta che avrete suddiviso i ruoli nel gruppo, dovrete decidere come organizzare la vostra webquest:
- Cominciate ad orientarvi fra i materiali ed i video disponibili nella pagina RESOURCES
Selezionate i materiali che riguardano il vostro navigatore e che vi servirà approfondire
- Raccogliete informazioni su:
1. Il suo luogo di nascita e il contesto in cui è vissuto
2. La data della scoperta e cosa è stato scoperto
3. Che cosa lo ha spinto a partire verso zone sconosciute
4. Difficoltà ed esiti della spedizione
5. Eventuali altri fatti interessanti
- Cercate e selezionate alcuna immagini che volete inserire nella presentazione (attenzione al copyright)
- Paragonate il carattere e le scelte del navigatore a voi assegnato con il vostro modo di essere esploratori nella vita quotidiana e ricavatene una breve riflessione
STEP 2 - MAP
Create una mappa, una tabella di sintesi, un diagramma per evidenziare i vari passaggi che volete affrontare nella webquest
STEP 3 - COLLABORAZIONE - create un documento Google condiviso di gruppo in cui segnare tutte le vostre scoperte e proposte per realizzare la presentazione finale
STEP 3 - MAKE
Rielaborazione dei contenuti.
Ciascun gruppo costruisce una presentazione multimediale ( video, poster, report, …) da condividere poi con gli altri gruppi in una presentazione comune.
STEP 5 - ASK
Verificate, con l'aiuto dei compagni e degli insegnanti, se avete impostato e realizzato bene il lavoro.
(ad es. Abbiamo trovato tutte le informazioni necessarie?
Abbiamo inserito solo immagini libere da copyright?
Abbiamo steso dei testi corretti, coerenti e coesi?
Abbiamo collegato il personaggio al contesto in cui è vissuto?
Abbiamo riflettuto sul nostro essere esploratori nella vita quotidiana?)
Se necessario, rivedete il lavoro ed integratelo con ulteriori informazioni.
STEP 6 - REMAKE
Se dal confronto con i compagni e gli insegnanti sono emerse delle modifiche da fare, inserite le informazioni mancanti o cambiate gli elementi che non sono in linea con il lavoro assegnato.
Prestate una particolare attenzione agli errori grammaticali e di sintassi.
La vostra presentazione sarà offerta a tutta la classe e agli insegnanti e diverrà patrimonio della vostra scuola.
STEP 7 - PRESENT
Ultima fase: presenterete il vostro lavoro alla classe. I vostri compagni prenderanno appunti, proprio come durante una lezione.
Tutti dovranno conoscere la parte da esporre e saranno gli insegnanti a decidere a chi dare la parola!

We hope that you have been personally involved in a journey through time to understand the historical context and the reasons that led these great men to leave the known world to go into the unknown to discover new things and new lands.
Don't forget the personal aspect: if you have made a comparison between your character and yourself, try to understand what kind of explorer you are.
Do you have motivations that open you to discovering something new every day or do you prefer to stay in your comfort zone (the things you already know) and not make any effort?
Does your ship set sail for unknown seas or is it anchored in the well-known port?
