INTRODUCTION: The Importance of Waste Management

  • Wastes cause pollution on land water and air. Proper management of waste is important to reduce pollution.
  • The three types of Waste; solid wastes, liquid wastes and gaseous wastes. These three types of wastes should be managed separately and carefully so that it does not harm our environment.
  • If waste management’s are not carried out properly, then it may lead to pollution.
  • The cycle of reducing, reusing and recycling leads to less usage of new products and hence it leads to less production of waste.
  • For the betterment of the health of the people, wastes should be managed safely and in a hygienic manner.
Task

TASK:

Proper waste disposal and management can be done by applying the 3R – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Reducing means lessening the amount of trash/garbage produced. Reusing refers to using materials more than once while recycling means creating new material or product out of trash/garbage.

To make the 3R work, there is a need to separate or segregate trash or garbage.

Identify what trash or garbage that can be recycled and which ones are not.

  • Biodegradable – waste or garbage that can be broken down or decomposed.
  • Non biodegradable – waster or garbage that cannot be broken down or decomposed.

Then for the non biodegradable wastes, these can be separated or segregated into paper, plastic, metal, and glass.

Process

PROCESS:

By applying the 3R's, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle system we can minimize the negative environmental impacts of our everyday living.

Reduce:

  • Try to stay away from disposable goods. In particular, paper plates, cups, bottles, and plastic utensils.
  • Buy durable and reusable goods. By buying something that will last you help to make sure wastes will stay out of landfills for longer.
  • Pack your lunch in a reusable box (lunch box).
  • Buying products with less packaging. When shopping for items choose the ones in just one bag instead of those that are double and triple packaged.
  • Buying products in bulk. By buying more of the same item all at once you reduce the overall amount of packaging you will encounter.

Reuse:

  • Use reusable bottles for your beverages rather than disposable bottles.
  • Invest in some reusable shopping bags or bring old plastic ones with you to the store.
  • Don’t throw away items that are broken, several can be reused and turned into great new things.
  • Look or watch videos of upcycling ideas for common household items, many have alternate uses you may never have thought about.

Recycle:

  • Buy products that can be recycled.
  • Use local recycling facilities such as glass bottle facilities, plastic bottle facilities, and etc.
  • If you can, compost your garden waste and vegetable peelings or take your garden waste to a compost bin,
  • Reducing your environmental impact is a series of small decisions and steps that are taken every day.

Conclusion

CONCLUSION:

Waste management reduces the effect of waste on the environment, health, and so on. It can also help reuse or recycle resources, such as; paper, cans, glass, and so on. There is various type of waste management that include the disposal of solid, liquid, gaseous, or hazardous substances.

There are many things that need to be taken into consideration when discussing waste management, such as disposal methods, recycling methods, avoidance and reduction methods, and transportation of waste. The process of waste management involves treating solid and liquid waste. During this study, it shows a variety of solutions for recycling items that aren’t categorized as trash and how to manage our waste in a simple way to avoid pollution.
