Introduction
Hi all!
We are off and moving with our poetry unit! As such, we need to make sure that we are familiar with the terms which we will be using to describe it.
The Assignment: We are going to create a PowerPoint presentation which explores the different tools used for poetry and links them to verbal or visual examples.
I am attaching the video which you watched on Tuesday and Wednesday as a way to review the terms from the last few days. Feel free to also use your notes from the last assignment as well.
Task
As mentioned, we are going to link poetry tools and devices to a visual or verbal example. What does this mean? As we create our slides and define each tool, we are going to search the internet for an example of this tool. Read on for the directions.

Directions: On your computers, open up PowerPoint. You will create slides for SEVEN of the poetic
tools (sometimes referred to as "poetic devices") on PowerPoint. The tools which you make pick from are the following:
- imagery
- simile
- metaphor
- alliteration
- assonance
- consonance
- personification
- hyperbole
- idioms
- onomatopoeia
After you pick your seven tools, you will create one slide for each term on PowerPoint. Each slide will include the following:
- Name of the tool
- Definition of the tool
- A written example of the tool
- A video clip or image which shows the tool in use.
- Images would be best for definitions for onomatopoeia, idiom
This assignment is meant to be straightforward and simple. Each slide should have 4 things on it.
If you scroll down, I have an example of a slide.
