Introduction

Welcome to the Unit Circle Circuit WebQuest!
In this WebQuest, we will focus on the unit circle, what it is, the importance of it, and applications of it.
If you have any questions feel free to let me know.
Task
This WebQuest contains three main tasks:
-
What is the unit circle?
-
Why is the unit circle important?
-
What are the applications of it (how will you use it in this class and in your future life!)

Process
Task 1: What is the unit circle
Please watch this video on YouTube about the unit circle:
As you can see, the Unit Circle is in a completely different system than what we've been dealing with. Instead of degrees, we're completing situations in Radians. From now on, we will have little to no interaction with degrees so make sure to switch your calculators to RADIANS. There's four key takeaways from this:
- x=cos(Ø)
- y=sin(Ø)
- tan(Ø)=sin(Ø)/cos(Ø)=y/x
- r=1
Once we get into further trigonometry units, we can discover more information about the unit circle and it's applications into more trig problems! But for now this will be the starting point, and we can build from there.
Task 2: Applications of unit circle
Please watch this video on Youtube explaining the unit circle more in depth and with examples:
So, as you can see the unit circle is a continuous infinite pattern that can go on and on forever, but typically problems will be between 0 and 2pi, but as long as you know the first quadrant, you can figure out the rest based on reflections on the x and y axis.

I can't stress this enough, you need to know this, there is no way you can solve some problems from now on without knowing this!!!
Task 3: More Examples
This link has more example problems, please try and do them.
Evaluation
To review this WebQuest, we will have a unit circle quiz in class this week. It will be a blank unit circle and you will need to fill out the angles in degrees AND radians along with the coordinates. Finally, you will need to write a paragraph (IN DEPTH) about two key takeaways you've gotten from this WebQuest and the unit circle. I have the attached rubric here:

Conclusion
You've reached the end of this Webquest! If you need an extension or have any questions on the due date please email me ASAP. Also if you need any more help with the Unit Circle please ask me. I hope to have this figured out so the rest of the units will be a breeze when given the unit circle.

This covers a unit of Pre-Calculus with a new introduction to radians. This gives students a basis for Calculus classes when using a different angle system. If you need any more resources use this attached Edpuzzle Video:
